| 有害性の概要 | Guthion, also called azinphos-methyl, is an organophosphorous pesticide that was used on many crops, especially apples, pears, cherries, peaches, almonds, and cotton. Many of its former uses have been cancelled by the EPA, and its few remaining uses are currently in the process of being phased out. Guthion is a synthetic substance, it does not occur naturally. Pure guthion is a colorless to white odorless crystalline solid that melts at about 72-74ºC (162-165ºF). Technical-grade guthion is a cream to yellow-brown granular solid. Guthion is poorly soluble in water. It is classified as highly toxicthe EPA reentry interval is 24 hours[EXTOXNET] A dermal sensitizer based on positive animal testing (maximization and patch testing)[ACGIH] The average of two baseline respective cholinesterase activity determinations three days apart, with no exposures to enzyme inhibiting pesticides for at least 30 days, is recommended for each worker prior to exposure to cholinesterase inhibitors because of large inter-individual differences in published baseline values. To be established at least once a year. Removal from workplace exposures is recommended until the cholinesterase activity returns to within 20% of baseline. [TLVs and BEIs] |

EPA issues an IRED for a pesticide that is undergoing reregistration, requires a reregistration eligibility decision, and also needs a cumulative assessment under FQPA. The IRED, issued after EPA completes the individual pesticide's aggregate risk assessment, may include taking risk reduction measures -- for example, reducing risks to workers or eliminating uses that the registrant no longer wishes to maintain -- to gain the benefits of these changes before the final RED can be issued following the Agency's consideration of cumulative risks.[Available from, as of December 1, 2003: http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/reregistration/status.htm]Environmental Health Criteria No. 63: Organophosphorus Insecticides: A General Introduction (1986)[Available from, as of December 3, 2003: http://www.inchem.org/documents/ehc/ehc/ehc63.htm] |

Formulation: All other formulationsClassification: Under further evaluation.... EPA has completed its assessment of the cumulative risks from the organophosphate (OP) class of pesticides as required by the Food Quality Protection Act of 1996. In addition, the individual OPs have also been subject to review through the individual-chemical review process. The Agency's review of individual OPs has resulted in the issuance of Interim Reregistration Eligibility Decisions (IREDs) for 22 OPs /including azinphos-methyl/, interim Tolerance Reassessment and Risk Management Decisions (TREDs) for 8 OPs, and a Reregistration Eligibility Decision (RED) for one OP, malathion. These 31 OPs are listed in Appendix A. EPA has concluded, after completing its assessment of the cumulative risks associated with exposures to all of the OPs, that: (1) the pesticides covered by the IREDs that were pending the results of the OP cumulative assessment (listed in Attachment A) are indeed eligible for reregistrationand (2) the pesticide tolerances covered by the IREDs and TREDs that were pending the results of the OP cumulative assessment (listed in Attachment A) meet the safety standard under Section 408(b)(2) of the FFDCA. Thus, with regard to the OPs, EPA has fulfilled its obligations as to FFDCA tolerance reassessment and FIFRA reregistration, other than product-specific reregistration. For more FIFRA Requirements (Complete) data for AZINPHOSMETHYL (6 total), please visit the HSDB record page. |

| 処分方法 | SRP: The most favorable course of action is to use an alternative chemical product with less inherent propensity for occupational harm/injury/toxicity or environmental contamination. Recycle any unused portion of the material for its approved use or return it to the manufacturer or supplier. Ultimate disposal of the chemical must consider: the material's impact on air qualitypotential migration in soil or watereffects on animal and plant lifeand conformance with environmental and public health regulations. This highly toxic material is rapidly hydrolyzed by cold alkali. Use 5 parts by volume 4% wt/vol sodium hydroxide soln to 1 volume of pesticide. Hydrolysis is improved by making the sodium hydroxide soln in 50% ethanol. ... Large amt - Incinerate in a unit with effluent gas scrubbing. (Peer-review conclusions of an IRPTC expert consultation (May 1985))Hydrolysis: Alkaline hydrolysis leads to complete degradation: the alkaline salt of dimethyldithiophosphoric acid and the anthranilic acid formed are nontoxic. Oxidation: Complete degradation but the gutoxon formed is equally toxic. For the decontamination of glass and metal containers triple rinse and use of a rinse soln containing caustic soda and detergent are considered.Pesticide Disposal: Pesticide wastes are acutely hazardous. Improper disposal of excess pesticide, spray mixture, or rinsate is a violation of Federal law. If these cannot be disposed of by use according to label instruction, contact your State Pesticide or Environmental Control Agency, or the Hazardous Waste representative at the nearest EPA Regional Office for guidance. /Azinphosmethyl 50W Soluble/Container Disposal: Completely empty bad into application equipment. | Preventive Measures | Use this product only in accordance with its labeling and with the Worker Protection Standard, 40 CFR part 170. /Azinphosmethyl 50W Soluble/SRP: The scientific literature for the use of contact lenses by industrial workers is inconsistent. The benefits or detrimental effects of wearing contact lenses depend not only upon the substance, but also on factors including the form of the substance, characteristics and duration of the exposure, the uses of other eye protection equipment, and the hygiene of the lenses. However, there may be individual substances whose irritating or corrosive properties are such that the wearing of contact lenses would be harmful to the eye. In those specific cases, contact lenses should not be worn. In any event, the usual eye protection equipment should be worn even when contact lenses are in place. The worker should immediately wash the skin when it becomes contaminated.Work clothing that becomes wet or significantly contaminated should be removed and replaced. For more Preventive Measures (Complete) data for AZINPHOSMETHYL (20 total), please visit the HSDB record page. |

| 体内負荷 | Azinphosmethyl metabolites dimethylthiophosphate (DMTP) and dimethyldithiophosphate (DMDTP) were analyzed in urine samples from residence of agricultural pesticide applicators, farm workers and reference homes (no resident working in agriculture and at least a quarter mile from treated orchards) from the Wentachee area of Washington state(1). DMTP and DMDTP are also metabolites of phosmet that was also used in this study(1).[Table#2940]Dimethylthiophosphate (DMTP) and dimethyldithiophosphate (DMDTP) are metabolites of azinphosmethyl, phosmet and malathion which are often used in conjunction and it can not be distinguished as to the parent compound in this study(1). DMTP and DMDTP were detected at mean concentrations of 0.65 and 0.44 umol/L in urine samples from 170 farm worker samples from commercial apple orchards in Quebec, Canada(1). |
| Treatment | If the compound has been ingested, rapid gastric lavage should be performed using 5% sodium bicarbonate. For skin contact, the skin should be washed with soap and water. If the compound has entered the eyes, they should be washed with large quantities of isotonic saline or water. In serious cases, atropine and/or pralidoxime should be administered. Anti-cholinergic drugs work to counteract the effects of excess acetylcholine and reactivate AChE. Atropine can be used as an antidote in conjunction with pralidoxime or other pyridinium oximes (such as trimedoxime or obidoxime), though the use of '-oximes' has been found to be of no benefit, or possibly harmful, in at least two meta-analyses. Atropine is a muscarinic antagonist, and thus blocks the action of acetylcholine peripherally. |
| 相互作用 | Mixtures of azinphos methyl with synthetic pyrethroids are synergistic insecticides. The in vitro effect of azinphosmethyl on the fungicidal activity of captan and mancozeb was investigated by a cellophane transfer technique. The fungistatic and fungicidal activity of mancozeb was reduced by the addition of azinphosmethyl, as was that of captan. In the forward mutation test system ADE6 of the yeast Saccharomyces pombe, trichlorfon in combination with azinphos-methyl produced clearly synergistic effects for toxicity and mutagenicity. The addition of S9 microsomal liver fraction decreased the efficiency of single and combined treatments.Atropine and enzyme-reactivating compounds have been shown to counteract the effects of azinphos-methyl.For more Interactions (Complete) data for AZINPHOSMETHYL (9 total), please visit the HSDB record page. |
| 標的器官 | Neurological (Nervous System)respiratory system, central nervous system, cardiovascular system, blood cholinesterase |
| 健康影響 | Acute exposure to cholinesterase inhibitors can cause a cholinergic crisis characterized by severe nausea/vomiting, salivation, sweating, bradycardia, hypotension, collapse, and convulsions. Increasing muscle weakness is a possibility and may result in death if respiratory muscles are involved. Accumulation of ACh at motor nerves causes overstimulation of nicotinic expression at the neuromuscular junction. When this occurs symptoms such as muscle weakness, fatigue, muscle cramps, fasciculation, and paralysis can be seen. When there is an accumulation of ACh at autonomic ganglia this causes overstimulation of nicotinic expression in the sympathetic system. Symptoms associated with this are hypertension, and hypoglycemia. Overstimulation of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the central nervous system, due to accumulation of ACh, results in anxiety, headache, convulsions, ataxia, depression of respiration and circulation, tremor, general weakness, and potentially coma. When there is expression of muscarinic overstimulation due to excess acetylcholine at muscarinic acetylcholine receptors symptoms of visual disturbances, tightness in chest, wheezing due to bronchoconstriction, increased bronchial secretions, increased salivation, lacrimation, sweating, peristalsis, and urination can occur. Certain reproductive effects in fertility, growth, and development for males and females have been linked specifically to organophosphate pesticide exposure. Most of the research on reproductive effects has been conducted on farmers working with pesticides and insecticdes in rural areas. In females menstrual cycle disturbances, longer pregnancies, spontaneous abortions, stillbirths, and some developmental effects in offspring have been linked to organophosphate pesticide exposure. Prenatal exposure has been linked to impaired fetal growth and development. Neurotoxic effects have also been linked to poisoning with OP pesticides causing four neurotoxic effects in humans: cholinergic syndrome, intermediate syndrome, organophosphate-induced delayed polyneuropathy (OPIDP), and chronic organophosphate-induced neuropsychiatric disorder (COPIND). These syndromes result after acute and chronic exposure to OP pesticides. |

| 環境中動態 | TERRESTRIAL FATE: Based on a classification scheme(1), Koc values of 298 to 4644(2-3), indicate that azinphosmethyl is expected to have moderate to slight mobility in soil(SRC). Volatilization of azinphosmethyl from moist soil surfaces is not expected to be an important fate process(SRC) given an estimated Henry's Law constant of 2.9X10-9 atm-cu m/mole(SRC), based upon its vapor pressure, 2.0X10-7 mm Hg(4), and water solubility, 29 mg/L(4). Azinphosmethyl is not expected to volatilize from dry soil surfaces(SRC) based upon its vapor pressure(4). Half-lives of 5.3 to 40 days have been reported under soil field conditions(2,5).TERRESTRIAL FATE: Field tests with azinphosmethyl indicated that on treated apple trees the half-life of this pesticide was about 2.6 to 6.3 days.TERRESTRIAL FATE: A half-life in soil of 194.15 days in the dark horizon was determined from a groundwater monitoring study conducted from October 1995 to March 1997 in the fruit production fields of the Neuquen River, Northern Patagonic, Argentina(1). Azinphosmethyl has reported field half-lives of 10 to 40 days(2). Using data from the 1993 UK database, half-lives for azinphosmethyl were 5.30 to 15 days in soil(3).AQUATIC FATE: Based on a classification scheme(1), Koc values of 298 to 4644(2-3), indicate that azinphosmethyl is expected to adsorb to suspended solids and sediment(SRC). Volatilization from water surfaces is not expected(4) based upon an estimated Henry's Law constant of 2.9X10-9 atm-cu m/mole(SRC), derived from its vapor pressure, 2.0X10-7 mm Hg(5), and water solubility, 29 mg/L(5). According to a classification scheme(6), an estimated BCF of 30(SRC), from its log Kow of 2.75(7) and a regression-derived equation(8), suggests the potential for bioconcentration in aquatic organisms is moderate(SRC). Hydrolysis half-lives for azinphosmethyl in water at pH 8.6 were 36.4, 27.9, and 7.2 days at 6, 25, and 40 °C, respectively(9). The half-life of azinphosmethyl in seawater was 11 days when exposed to natural sunlight, while the half-life in river water was 8 days when exposed to natural sunlight(10). A decrease from 99 mg/L to 49 mg/L after 4 days incubation in a stirred flask containing azinphosmethyl as the sole carbon source and a mixed culture indicates that biodegradation in water may be an important environmental fate process(11).ATMOSPHERIC FATE: According to a model of gas/particle partitioning of semivolatile organic compounds in the atmosphere(1), azinphosmethyl, which has a vapor pressure of 2.0X10-7 mm Hg at 25 °C(2), will exist in both the vapor and particulate phases in the ambient atmosphere. Vapor-phase azinphosmethyl is degraded in the atmosphere by reaction with photochemically-produced hydroxyl radicals(SRC)the half-life for this reaction in air is estimated to be 2.5 hours(SRC), calculated from its rate constant of 1.5X10-10 cu cm/molecule-sec at 25 °C(SRC) that was derived using a structure estimation method(3). Particulate-phase azinphosmethyl may be removed from the air by wet or dry deposition(SRC). Azinphosmethyl contains chromophores that absorb at wavelengths >290 nm(4) and, therefore, may be susceptible to direct photolysis by sunlight(SRC). |

| 毒性の概要 | Guthion is a cholinesterase or acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor. A cholinesterase inhibitor (or 'anticholinesterase') suppresses the action of acetylcholinesterase. Because of its essential function, chemicals that interfere with the action of acetylcholinesterase are potent neurotoxins, causing excessive salivation and eye-watering in low doses, followed by muscle spasms and ultimately death. Nerve gases and many substances used in insecticides have been shown to act by binding a serine in the active site of acetylcholine esterase, inhibiting the enzyme completely. Acetylcholine esterase breaks down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is released at nerve and muscle junctions, in order to allow the muscle or organ to relax. The result of acetylcholine esterase inhibition is that acetylcholine builds up and continues to act so that any nerve impulses are continually transmitted and muscle contractions do not stop. Among the most common acetylcholinesterase inhibitors are phosphorus-based compounds, which are designed to bind to the active site of the enzyme. The structural requirements are a phosphorus atom bearing two lipophilic groups, a leaving group (such as a halide or thiocyanate), and a terminal oxygen. |
| CERCLA 報告数量 | Persons in charge of vessels or facilities are required to notify the National Response Center (NRC) immediately, when there is a release of this designated hazardous substance, in an amount equal to or greater than its reportable quantity of 1 lb or 0.454 kg. The toll free number of the NRC is (800) 424-8802. The rule for determining when notification is required is stated in 40 CFR 302.4 (section IV.D.3.b).Releases of CERCLA hazardous substances are subject to the release reporting requirement of CERCLA section 103, codified at 40 CFR part 302, in addition to the requirements of 40 CFR part 355. Azinphos-methyl is an extremely hazardous substance (EHS) subject to reporting requirements when stored in amounts in excess of its threshold planning quantity (TPQ) of 10 or 10,000 lbs. Extremely hazardous substances that are solids are subject to either of two threshold planning quantities ... The lower quantity applies only if the solid exists in powdered form and has a particle size less than 100 micronsor is handled in solution or in molten formor meets the criteria for a National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) rating of 2, 3 or 4 for reactivity. If the solid does not meet any of these criteria, it is subject to the upper ... threshold planning quantity ... . |

一般的な説明
Azinphos methyl is a colorless brown, waxy or white crystalline solid dissolved in a liquid carrier. AZINPHOS-METHYL is used as a pesticide. AZINPHOS-METHYL is added to water to create a water emulsifiable liquid. AZINPHOS-METHYL is toxic by inhalation, skin absorption, and/or ingestion. AZINPHOS-METHYL is heavier than and insoluble in water. Technical-grade guthion is a cream to yellowbrown granular solid. Guthion is poorly soluble in water. Pure guthion is a colourless to white odourless crystalline solid. Technical-grade guthion is a cream to yellow-brown granular solid.
