By methods described in Procedure L, 4-cyclobutylidenemethyl-1H-indole-2,3-dione was prepared from 4-iodo-1H-indole-2,3-dione and methylene cyclobutene in 25% yield: 1H NMR (DMSO-d6): δ 2.08 (quintet, J=7.8 Hz, 2H), 2.91 (m, 2H), 3.06 (m, 2H), 6.67 (d, J=7.7 Hz, 1H), 6.94 (d, J=7.7 Hz, 1H), 6.96 (s, 1H), 7.47 (d, J=7.7 Hz, 1H), 11.00 (bs, 1H); APCI−MS m/z 211 (M−1)−. Condensation of 4-(cyclobutylidenemethyl)-1H-indole-2,3-dione and 4-sulfonamidophenylhydrazine hydrochloride according to Procedure G gave the title compound in 76% yield: 1H NMR (DMSO-d6): δ 2.11 (quintet, J=7.8 Hz, 2H), 3.00 (t, J=7.8 Hz, 2H), 3.06 (t, J=7.8 Hz, 2H), 6.74 (d, J=7.7 Hz, 1H), 6.97 (d, J=7.7 Hz, 1H), 7.07 (s, 1H), 7.21 (t, J=7.7 Hz, 1H), 7.25 (s, 2H), 7.47 (d, J=8.7 Hz, 2H), 7.81 (d, J=8.7 Hz, 2H), 11.12 (s, 1H), 13.03 (s, 1H); APCI−MS m/z 381 (M−1)−.
