A solution of 2-{4-[2-(2-biphenyl-4-yl-5-methyloxazol-4-yl)-ethoxy]-2-cyclohexylmethyl-phenoxy}-2-methyl-propionic acid ethyl ester (2.30 mmol) in THF (15 mL) and methanol (30 mL) was treated with 2.5N aqueous NaOH (10 mL). The solution was heated at 55° C. for 2 h, cooled to ambient temperature, and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was acidified with 5N aqueous HCl (5 mL) and partitioned between ethyl acetate (125 mL) and H2O (25 mL). The organic layer was washed with brine (50 mL), dried (Na2SO4), and concentrated to a give 2-{2-benzyl-4-[2-(2-biphenyl-4-yl-5-methyloxazol-4-yl)-ethoxy]-phenoxy}-2-methyl-propionic acid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ8.03-8.05 (m, 2H), 7.68 (d, 2H, J=8.3 Hz), 7.62 (d, 2H, J=6.8 Hz), 7.46 (t, 2H, J=7.3 Hz), 7.30-7.38 (m, 1H), 7.23-7.27 (m, 2H), 7.18 (d, 1H, J=7.3 Hz), 7.14 (d, 2H, J=8.3 Hz), 6.78 (d, 1H, J=9.3 Hz), 6.70 (d, 1H, J=2.9 Hz), 6.66 (dd, 1H, J=8.8 Hz, J=2.9 Hz), 4.16 (t, 2H, J=6.4 Hz), 3.92 (s, 2H), 3.00 (t, 2H, J=6.4 Hz), 2.38 (s, 3H), 1.45 (s, 6H), MS (ES) m/e 554.2 (M+1).
