1 g of (3RS,4S)-4-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)amino-6-methylhepten-3-ol was dissolved in 2 ml of dry DMF, and 743 mg of tert-butyldimethylchlorosilane and 700 mg of imidazole were added thereto. The mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. Then, 160 ml of ethyl acetate was added to the reaction solution. The mixture was washed with cooled 1N hydrochloric acid, with a saturated sodium hydrogencarbonate aqueous solution and a saturated sodium chloride aqueous solution and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (n-hexane/ethyl acetate=30/1) to obtain 1.21 g of (3RS,4S)-4-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)amino-3-(tert-butyldimethylsilyl)oxy-6-methylheptene as colorless oily substance.
