(7-Iodo-1,1-dioxo-1,4-dihydro-1λ6-benzo[1,2,4]thiadiazin-3-yl)-acetic acid (prepared as described in US patent application US 2008/0031852, 0.2 g, 0.546 mmol) was dissolved in anhydrous N,N-dimethylformamide (5 mL). (1S,2R,3S,4R)-3-(3-Methyl-butylamino)-bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (prepared as described in Example 22a, 0.138 g, 0.546 mmol) was added followed by 1-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-3-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride (0.11 g, 0.573 mmol). Then N-methylmorpholine (0.116 g, 1.15 mmol) was added into the above reaction mixture. The mixture was stirred at 25° C. for 16 h. The solution was poured into 1.0 M aqueous hydrochloric acid solution (100 mL). The aqueous layer was extracted with ethyl acetate (2×100 mL). The organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo to afford the crude product, (1S,2R,3S,4R)-3-[[2-(7-iodo-1,1-dioxo-1,4-dihydro-1λ6-benzo[1,2,4]thiadiazin-3-yl)-acetyl]-(3-methyl-butyl)-amino]-bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester, as a light yellow oil, which was used in the next step without any further purification. LC-MS (ESI) calcd for C24H321N3O5S 601.11, found 602.6 [M+H+].
