To a suspension of N-[2-ethyl-4-(1,2,2,3,3,3-hexafluoro-1-trifluoromethylpropyl)-6-methylphenyl]-2-fluoro-3-nitrobenzamide (Example 12) (5 g, 9.6 mmol) in methanol (195 ml) was added potassium carbonate (2.6 g, 16.2 mmol) at ambient temperature. The reaction mixture was stirred for 16 hours at ambient temperature. The reaction mixture was concentrated and the residue was dissolved in dichloromethane. The organic phase was washed with water, dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated. The residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (eluent: cyclohexane/ethyl acetate 3:1) to give N-[2-ethyl-4-(1,2,2,3,3,3-hexafluoro-1-trifluoromethylpropyl)-6-methylphenyl]-2-methoxy-3-nitrobenzamide (5.1 g, 99% yield). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): 8.90 (bs, 1H), 8.32 (d, 1H), 7.97 (d, 1H), 7.38 (m, 3H), 4.19 (s, 3H), 2.70 (q, 2H), 2.24 (s, 3H), 1.20 (t, 3H) ppm.
