Procedure
To a solution of 5-phenylisoxazole-3-carbaldehyde 38i (0.365 g, 2.1 mmol) in 15 mL THF was added a THF solution of 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenylmagnesiumbromide (0.5 N, 5.5 mL, 2.74 mmol) at 0° C. The mixture was allowed to stir for 30 min and quenched with satd. NH4Cl, extracted with ethyl ether, dried with MgSO4. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure to yield a crude product, which was purified by column chromatography to obtain pure compound 40i as a white solid. (48.8%). 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ 7.78-7.77 (m, 2H), 7.48-7.46 (m, 3H), 6.74 (s, 2H), 6.45 (s, 1H), 5.98 (d, 1H, J=3.5 Hz) 3.89 (s, 6H), 3.86 (s, 3H), 2.77 (d, 1H, J=3.5 Hz); MS (ESI) m/z 364.1 (M+Na)+.
