2.6 g of 5,7-dihydro-2-[[(4-methoxy-3,5-dimethyl-2-pyridyl)methyl]thio]-5,5,7,7-tetram ethylindeno[5,6-d]imidazol-6(lH)-one were dissolved in 50 ml of hot methanol and the solution was boiled under reflux for 10 minutes with 50 ml of a 4N solution of hydrogen chloride in methanol. After concentration in vacuo the residue was crystallized from ether and there was obtained 5,7-dihydro-2-[[(4-methoxy-3,5-dimethyl-2-pyridyl)methyl]thio]-5,5,7 ,7-tetramethylindeno[5,6-d]imidazol-6(lH)-one dihydrochloride of melting point 165-170° .
