Isolated from various strains of Kitasatospora aureofaciens (Streptomyces aureofaciens), it inhibits the growth of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma in vitro. It has a role as an antineoplastic agent and a bacterial metabolite. It is a primary carboxamide, a delta-lactone, an anthraquinone, a member of phenols and an organic heterotetracyclic compound.
