Wash any surfaces you may have contaminated with a soap and water solution. Do not reenter the contaminated area until the Safety Officer (or other responsible person) has verified that the area has been properly cleaned. |
| Entsorgungsverfahren | SRP: The most favorable course of action is to use an alternative chemical product with less inherent propensity for occupational exposure or environmental contamination. Recycle any unused portion of the material for its approved use or return it to the manufacturer or supplier. Ultimate disposal of the chemical must consider: the material's impact on air qualitypotential migration in soil or watereffects on animal, aquatic, and plant lifeand conformance with environmental and public health regulations. |
| Verschüttetes entsorgen | Personal protection: particulate filter respirator adapted to the airborne concentration of the substance. Collect leaking and spilled liquid in covered containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent. Then store and dispose of according to local regulations. |
| Preventive Measures | SRP: The scientific literature for the use of contact lenses in industry is conflicting. The benefit or detrimental effects of wearing contact lenses depend not only upon the substance, but also on factors including the form of the substance, characteristics and duration of the exposure, the uses of other eye protection equipment, and the hygiene of the lenses. However, there may be individual substances whose irritating or corrosive properties are such that the wearing of contact lenses would be harmful to the eye. In those specific cases, contact lenses should not be worn. In any event, the usual eye protection equipment should be worn even when contact lenses are in place.Where there is any possibility of a worker's eyes being exposed to BGE, an eye-wash fountain should be provided within the immediate work area for emergency use. ...Where there is any possibility of a worker's body being exposed to BGE, facilities for quick drenching of the body should be provided within the immediate work area for emergency use. ...The worker should immediately wash the skin when it becomes contaminated. For more Preventive Measures (Complete) data for N-BUTYL GLYCIDYL ETHER (10 total), please visit the HSDB record page. |

| Umweltverhalten | TERRESTRIAL FATE: Based on a classification scheme(1), an estimated Koc value of 52(SRC), determined from a log Kow of 0.63(2) and a regression-derived equation(3), indicates that n-butyl glycidyl ether is expected to have high mobility in soil(SRC). Volatilization of n-butyl glycidyl ether from moist soil surfaces is expected to be an important fate process(SRC) given an estimated Henry's Law constant of 2.5X10-5 atm-cu m/mole(SRC), derived from its vapor pressure of 3.2 mm Hg(4), and water solubility of 2X10+4 mg/L(5). The potential for volatilization of n-butyl glycidyl ether from dry soil surfaces exists(SRC) based upon its vapor pressure(4). Biodegradation data were not available(SRC, 2005).AQUATIC FATE: Based on a classification scheme(1), an estimated Koc value of 52(SRC), determined from a log Kow of 0.63(2) and a regression derived equation(3), indicates that n-butyl glycidyl ether is not expected to adsorb to suspended solids and sediment(SRC). Volatilization from water surfaces is expected(3) based upon an estimated Henry's Law constant of 2.5X10-5 atm-cu m/mole(SRC), derived from its vapor pressure of 3.2 mm Hg(4), and water solubility of 2X10+4 mg/L(5). Using this Henry's Law constant and an estimation method(3), volatilization half-lives for a model river and model lake are 1 and 16 days, respectively (SRC). According to a classification scheme(6), an estimated BCF of 3(SRC), from its log Kow(2) and a regression-derived equation(7), suggests the potential for bioconcentration in aquatic organisms is low(SRC). n-Butyl glycidyl ether contains an epoxide functional group which is susceptible to hydrolysis, but the rate of this reaction is very slow based upon an estimated half-life of over 60 years at pH 7(8). Biodegradation data were not available(SRC, 2005).ATMOSPHERIC FATE: According to a model of gas/particle partitioning of semivolatile organic compounds in the atmosphere(1), n-butyl glycidyl ether, which has a vapor pressure of 3.2 mm Hg at 25 °C(2), is expected to exist solely as a vapor in the ambient atmosphere. Vapor-phase n-butyl glycidyl ether is degraded in the atmosphere by reaction with photochemically-produced hydroxyl radicals(SRC)the half-life for this reaction in air is estimated to be 19 hours(SRC), calculated from its rate constant of 2X10-11 cu cm/molecule-sec at 25 °C(SRC) that was derived using a structure estimation method(3). |

| TSCA Test Submissions | Glycidyl n-butyl ether was evaluated for the ability to increase the incidence of micronuclei in bone marrow cells of female B6D2F1 mice treated by oral gavage. Ten mice received 1000 mg/kg of the test article (in corn oil) 1x daily for 5 daysanimals were sacrificed 4 hours following the final dose. The percentage of cells with micronuclei was not statistically significantly (Dunnett's t-test, p > 0.1) increased compared to controls. The toxicity of glycidyl n-butyl ether to mice at the level tested was not reported. In a modified dominant lethal and pathology study, mature male B6D2F1 mice were mated with 3 virgin females each. After pre-treatment matings, the males (2 groups/dose level, 20 and 10 males/group) were treated with glycidyl n-butyl ether by dermal application on clipped skin at dose levels of 0, 0.375, 0.75 or 1.5 g/kg/day, 3 times/week for 8 weeks. Two groups of unclipped male mice (10 and 20/group) served as controls. After the treatment period, males and females were mated for 3 weeks. Males were sacrificed following final mating period and females were sacrificed 14 days after the midweek of their mating periods. Variables were analyzed with respect to group differences by dose (dose), overall time period differences (time), and the dose group by time period interaction (dose/time). Significant differences were observed between treated and control animals in the following: decreased pregnancy rates (dose basis, excluding controls), increased implants/pregnant female (time basis, after 1st pre-treatment period with trend back to control value at (3rd post-treatment period), decreased proportion of dead implants (dose and dose/time bases), increased incidence of necrosis of the epidermis at point of application (high-dose group). No significant differences were observed between treated and control animals in the following: pregnancy rates, gross pathology of males, histopathology of the liver, lung, and testes, and numbers of dead cells and necrotic tubules. The mutagenicity of glycidol n-butyl ether (GBE) was evaluated in Salmonella tester strains TA1535 and TA1538 (Ames Test), both in the presence and absence of added metabolic activation by Aroclor-induced rat liver S9 fraction. Based on preliminary bacterial toxicity determinations, GBE, diluted with DMSO, was tested for mutagenicity at concentrations up to 2000 ug/plate using the plate incorporation method. GBE caused a positive response in bacterial tester strain TA1535 at 2000 ug/plate, both with and without metabolic activation, and in bacterial tester strain TA1538 at concentrations of 100 ug/plate and higher without activation and at 500 ug/plate and higher with activation. The mutagenicity of glycidol n-butyl ether (GBE) was evaluated in male B6D2F1 mice (at least 10) dermally exposed to GBE at a dose level of 1.5 g/kg three times/week for a minimum of 8 weeks. Following the treatment period, the male mice were mated with 3 untreated virgin female B6D2F1f mice for one week and mated with 3 fresh females for a second week. Significant differences were observed between pre- and post-treatment results in the following: proportion of deaths/pregnancy (increased during post-treatment period), number of implants/pregnancy (decreased post-treatment), and percent pregnancy (increased post-treatment).For more TSCA Test Submissions (Complete) data for N-BUTYL GLYCIDYL ETHER (7 total), please visit the HSDB record page. |
