(Non-Specific -- Alkylamine, n.o.s. (Corrosive)) Keep unnecessary people away; isolate hazard area and deny entry. Stay upwind; keep out of low areas. Wear self-contained (positive pressure if available) breathing apparatus and full-protective clothing.

First AidWarning: Hexamethylenediamine, N,N'-dibutyl- is corrosive.Caution is advised.
Fire Fighting ProceduresTo fight small fires, use dry chemical, carbon dioxide, water spray, or foam. To fight large fires, use water spray, fog, or foam.
Nonfire Spill Response(Non-Specific -- Alkylamine, n.o.s. (Corrosive)) Do not touch spilled material; stop leak if you can do so without risk.
Disposal Methods · 1 Eintrag

SRP: At the time of review, criteria for land treatment or burial (sanitary landfill) disposal practices are subject to significant revision. Prior to implementing land disposal of waste residue (including waste sludge), consult with environmental regulatory agencies for guidance on acceptable disposal practices.

Preventive Measures · 1 Eintrag

SRP: The scientific literature for the use of contact lenses in industry is conflicting. The benefit or detrimental effects of wearing contact lenses depend not only upon the substance, but also on factors including the form of the substance, characteristics and duration of the exposure, the uses of other eye protection equipment, and the hygiene of the lenses. However, there may be individual substances whose irritating or corrosive properties are such that the wearing of contact lenses would be harmful to the eye. In those specific cases, contact lenses should not be worn. In any event, the usual eye protection equipment should be worn even when contact lenses are in place.

Dibutylhexamethylenediamine (CAS # 4835-11-4) was evaluated for acute inhalation toxicity in 6 male Charles River rats exposed to dynamically-generated vapors at analytical concentrations of 0.12, 0.21, 0.22, 0.27, 1.38, and 3.64 mg/L for 4 hours. Vapors produced by a syringe-fed Lindberg tube furnace (190-220 degrees C) were carried by 4-5% N2/minute into a 20 L battery jar exposure chamber, which was also oxygen supplemented to approximately 20% by infusion of houseline air. Samples of chamber air in acetone were analyzed for vapor concentrations by gas chromatograph fitted with a flame ionization detector. A LC50 was 0.22 mg/L (95% confidence limits, 0.13 - 0.28 mg/L). Most rats died during exposure, although one rat of the 0.27 mg/L exposure group died four days post-exposure. Clinical signs of toxicity characterizing all exposures included pawing and chewing, salivation, lethargy, and irregular breathing. Exposure levels of 0.21 mg/L and higher were associated with convulsions, which were most severe at the highest exposure levels. Nasal discharge (sometimes red) was noted among rats of the high level exposure, while hyperemia was documented at all other exposure levels. Red or clear nasal and ocular discharge, irregular respiration, gasping and lung noise, and transient weight loss were observed among survivors at all exposure levels during the 14-day post-exposure recovery period. A Haskell Laboratory system of toxicity classification determined that 98% 1,6-hexanediamine, N,N-dibutyl- is highly toxic by inhalation.

N,N-Dibutyl-1,6-hexanediamine (CAS # 4835-11-4) was evaluated for eye irritation in 3 albino rabbits administered 0.1 mL undiluted instillations into right eye conjunctival sacs, the untreated left eye serving as control. After 20 minutes, 2/3 rabbits' eyes were washed for 1 minute, the third rabbit's treated eye remaining unrinsed throughout the subsequent observation period. Initially, 2 rabbits were treated, until that of the rinsed eye died 3 days later. Upon necropsy, blood was found in the lungs, trachea and bladder. Study authors suggested that this lethality may have occurred due to the stress of treatment. The 4-day response of the decedent rabbit was included in the study results. Treatment was associated with a generalized mild to severe penetrating corneal opacity, common to all rabbits and culminating in persistent corneal opalescence at 4 hours and 7 days post-treatment in unwashed and washed eyes, respectively. Severe iritis with distension of the pupil was also documented until corneal opacity obscured further changes. The conjunctiva of the unrinsed eye was immediately hemorrhagic and brown, becoming swollen with tissue destruction, particularly of the nictitating membrane. In the rinsed eye, severe conjunctival swelling and corrosion of the outer lids was evident from 4 days post-instillation. All eyes were eventually closed by a purulent brown or clear discharge that first appeared in both rinsed and unrinsed eyes approximately 1 hour after treatment. No apparent benefit was derived from rinsing the treated eye 1 minute after treatment: Lens opacities, lack of a response to light and, finally, sponginess of the cornea with partial detachment by study termination characterized the ocular destruction of a magnitude comparable to that in the unrinsed eye.

Human Toxicity Excerpts · 2 Einträge

Human systemic effects by ingestion: acute circulatory shock; burns in the mouth, throat, and esophagus; suffocation due to glottal or laryngeal swelling; perforation and inflammation of the esophagus and the tracheobronchital tree; aspiration pneumonia. Scar formation can cause delayed problems with swallowing, and stomach filling and emptying. The immediate symptoms of ingestion are: visible burns in mouth, drooling, gagging, vomiting, chest and upper abdominal pain, difficulty in breathing, or apnea (respiratory arrest); collapse and cardiac arrest may occur.

Strong alkalies are markedly corrosive and penetrating to the skin and mucous membranes.
