| Brandgefahren | Not combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire. |
| Gesundheitsgefahren | Excerpt from NIOSH Pocket Guide for Gypsum: |
| Gefahrenübersicht | A cross-sectional study of 241 British gypsum miners in Sussex and Nottinghamshire with over 20 years of exposure identified x-ray findings consistent with a simple pneumoconiosis. Sixty-four miners had >1/0 on the ILO scale and 3 miners had 2/1 or greater. The authors attributed the higher rates of slight pneumoconiosis in the Sussex miners to the higher levels of quartz in these mines where the levels of gypsum dust were lower. [ACGIH] See Calcium sulfate. Not a skin irritant in rabbitsNo evidence of skin sensitization in guinea pigsDecreased total protein, albumin, BUN, AST, ALT, and creatinine observed in males at 300 and 1,000 mg/kg/day in repeated-dose oral study of rats (possible effect on excretion, distribution, or metabolism relating to the kidney)No adverse effects observed in females at dose up to 1,000 mg/kg/dayNo evidence of reproductive or developmental toxicity in rats at oral doses up to 1,000 mg/kg/dayNo evidence of mutagenicity[OECD SIDS: Calcium sulfate, dihydrate - 2003] May cause mechanical irritationRepeated or prolonged exposure to dust particles may cause lung effects[ICSC] May cause irritation[Sigma-Aldrich MSDS] See Calcium sulfate.
