| Reaktive Gruppe | Salts, Acidic |
| Reactivity Profile | AMMONIUM IODIDE is light sensitive, becomes yellow or brown on exposure to air and light because of liberation of Iodine [Merck 11th ed. 1989]. Bromine trifluoride reacts explosively with ammonium iodide [Mellor 2 Supp. 1:165 1956]. |
| Air and Water Reactions | Water soluble. |
| Toxic Combustion Products | TOXIC AND IRRITATING FUMES OF HYDROGEN IODIDE, IODINE & OXIDES OF NITROGEN MAY FORM IN FIRE. |
Anwendungen & Verwendung
Verwenden
White crystals made by the action of ammonium hydroxide on hydroiodic acid followed by crystallization. Soluble in water and alcohol, ammonium iodide was used as a halide in collodion formulas, particularly in situations where it was needed for use immediately. Ammonium iodide decomposes quickly when mixed with plain collodion, releasing iodine.
