Chemical: Ethanedioic acid, dipotassium salt, monohydrate

Ethanedioic acid, dipotassium salt, monohydrate: Does not have an individual approval but may be used under an appropriate group standard

Other Safety InformationIMAP assessments - Oxalic acid soluble salts: Human health tier II assessment
Fire HazardsBehavior in Fire: Loses water at about 160 ° and decomposes to carbonate with no charring. The reaction is not hazardous. (USCG, 1999)
Health Hazards · 1 Eintrag

Inhalation of dust can cause systemic poisoning. Ingestion causes burning pain in throat, esophagus, and stomach; exposed areas of mucous membrane turn white; vomiting, severe purging, weak pulse, and cardiovascular collapse may result; if death is delayed, neuromuscular symptoms develop. Contact with eyes or skin causes irritation. (USCG, 1999)

Hazards SummaryA skin and strong eye irritant; Harmful by ingestion and skin absorption; May cause malformations in the fetus; [Sigma-Aldrich MSDS] See Potassium oxalate.

BeschreibungPotassium oxalate monohydrate is the monohydrate form of potassium oxalate. It is a strong dicarboxylic acid naturally occurring in many plants and vegetables. It is produced inside the body during the metabolism of glyoxylic acid or ascorbic acid. It is used as a chelating agent, a purifying agent in the pharmaceutical industry as well as a precipitating agent in rare-earth metal processing. In textile and wood industry, it can also used as a grinding agent, a rust remover in metal treatment and a bleaching agent. Moreover, it can be used as a scale remover in automobile radiators and also used in water treatment. In addition, it can be used to determine the calcium content and other heavy metals and reducing agents inn analytic chemistry. It can also be used for the preparation of SBA-15 (nanostructured SiO2) supported catalyst.
