By law, these newer pesticides are not subject to the reregistration program. They must, however, meet the new safety standard of the FQPA, and will be reviewed on a 15-year cycle under the registration review program. ... Reactivity Profile
A halogenated ester and amine. Amines are chemical bases. They neutralize acids to form salts plus water. These acid-base reactions are exothermic. The amount of heat that is evolved per mole of amine in a neutralization is largely independent of the strength of the amine as a base. Amines may be incompatible with isocyanates, halogenated organics, peroxides, phenols (acidic), epoxides, anhydrides, and acid halides. Flammable gaseous hydrogen is generated by amines in combination with strong reducing agents, such as hydrides. Esters react with acids to liberate heat along with alcohols and acids. Strong oxidizing acids may cause a vigorous reaction that is sufficiently exothermic to ignite the reaction products. Heat is also generated by the interaction of esters with caustic solutions. Flammable hydrogen is generated by mixing esters with alkali metals and hydrides.

Environmental Fate
TERRESTRIAL FATE: Based on a classification scheme(1), Koc values of 510 and 570(2) indicate that quizalofop-ethyl is expected to have low mobility in soil(SRC). Volatilization of quizalofop-ethyl from moist soil surfaces is not expected to be an important fate process(SRC) given a Henry's Law constant of 1.1X10-8 atm-cu m/mole(SRC), based upon its vapor pressure, 6.49X10-9 mm Hg(3) and water solubility, 0.3 mg/l(4). Quizalofop-ethyl is not expected to volatilize from dry soil surfaces(SRC) based upon its vapor pressure(3). In a field dissipation study in soil, quizalofop-ethyl had a half-life of 60 days(2) suggesting that this compound is degraded fairly slowly in the environment.
AQUATIC FATE: Based on a classification scheme(1), Koc values of 510 and 570(2) indicate that quizalofop-ethyl is not expected to adsorb to suspended solids and sediment(SRC). Volatilization from water surfaces may be expected(3) based upon a Henry's Law constant of 1.1X10-8 atm-cu m/mole(SRC), based upon its vapor pressure, 6.49X10-9 mm Hg(4) and water solubility, 0.30 mg/l(5). According to a classification scheme(6), an estimated BCF of 400(SRC), from its log Kow(7) and a regression-derived equation(8), suggests the potential for bioconcentration in aquatic organisms is high(SRC). Data on the biodegradation of quizalofop-ethyl in water were not available. In a field dissipation study in soil, quizalofop-ethyl had a half-life of 60 days(2) suggesting that this compound is degraded fairly slowly in the environment.
ATMOSPHERIC FATE: According to a model of gas/particle partitioning of semivolatile organic compounds in the atmosphere(1), quizalofop-ethyl, which has a vapor pressure of 6.49X10-9 mm Hg at 20 °C(2), is expected to exist solely in the particulate phase in the ambient atmosphere. Particulate-phase quizalofop-ethyl may be removed from the air by wet and dry deposition(SRC).

Environmental Biodegradation
A field dissipation half-life of 60 days was reported(1); this value includes loss due to both abiotic and biotic degradation as well as transport processes. In soil, a DT50 value of less than 1 day has been reported; quizalofop is formed as the degradation product(2).
Environmental Bioconcentration
An estimated BCF of 400 was calculated for quizalofop-ethyl(SRC), using a log Kow of 4.28(1) and a regression-derived equation(2). According to a classification scheme(3), this BCF suggests the potential for bioconcentration in aquatic organisms is high(SRC).
Volatilization from Water/Soil
The Henry's Law constant for quizalofop-ethyl is 1.1X10-8 atm-cu m/mole(SRC) based upon its vapor pressure, 6.49X10-9 mm Hg(1), and water solubility, 0.30 mg/l(2). This Henry's Law constant indicates that quizalofop-ethyl is expected to be essentially nonvolatile from water surfaces(3). Quizalofop-ethyl's Henry's Law constant(1,2) indicates that volatilization from moist soil surfaces should not occur(SRC). Quizalofop-ethyl is not expected to volatilize from dry soil surfaces(SRC) based upon its vapor pressure(1).
