Environmental Fate · 3 Einträge

TERRESTRIAL FATE: Based on a classification scheme(1), an estimated Koc value of 14(SRC), determined from a structure estimation method(2), indicates that hydroxylamine is expected to have very high mobility in soil(SRC). The pKa of hydroxylamine is 5.94(3) which indicates this compound will partially exist as a cation under acidic conditions, and cations have lower mobility in soil than neutral species(SRC). Volatilization of hydroxylamine from moist soil surfaces is not expected to be an important fate process since cations do not volatilize(SRC) and the neutral species has an estimated Henry's Law constant of 6.9X10-9 atm-cu m/mole(SRC), using a fragment constant estimation method(4). The potential for volatilization of hydroxylamine from dry soil surfaces may exist(SRC) based upon a vapor pressure of 53 mm Hg(5) at 32 °C.

AQUATIC FATE: Based on a classification scheme(1), an estimated Koc value of 14(SRC), determined from a structure estimation method(2), indicates that hydroxylamine is not expected to adsorb to suspended solids and sediment(SRC). A pKa of 5.94(3) indicates hydroxylamine will partially exist as a cation in waters. Volatilization from water surfaces is not expected to be an important environmental fate process(SRC) since cations do not volatilize and the Henry's Law constant of the neutral species is 6.9X10-9 atm-cu m/mole(SRC), developed using a fragment constant estimation method(4). According to a classification scheme(5), an estimated BCF of 3(SRC), from an estimated log Kow of 1.2(6,SRC) and a regression-derived equation(7), suggests the potential for bioconcentration in aquatic organisms is low(SRC).

ATMOSPHERIC FATE: According to a model of gas/particle partitioning of semivolatile organic compounds in the atmosphere(1), hydroxylamine, which has a vapor pressure of 53 mm Hg at 32 °C(2), is expected to exist solely as a vapor in the ambient atmosphere. Vapor-phase hydroxylamine is degraded in the atmosphere by reaction with photochemically-produced hydroxyl radicals(SRC); the half-life for this reaction in air is estimated to be 18 hours(SRC), calculated from its rate constant of 2.1X10-11 cu cm/molecule-sec at 25 °C(SRC) determined using a structure estimation method(3).
