The title compound was prepared from propionaldehyde and (E)-1-bromo-4-(2-nitrovinyl)benzene according to the general procedure. Both enantiomeric excess and diastereomeric ratio were determined by HPLC with an AD-H column at 230 nm (2-propanol:hexane=5:95), 1.0 mL/min; major enantiomer tmajor=18.59 min, tminor=13.77 min. [α]D20=−24.6 (c=2.1, CHCl3).
