1,4-Dichloro-3-buten-2-one (0.0556 kg, 0.4 mole) and diethyl malonate (0.064 kg, 0.4 mole) were condensed under identical conditions to those described in Example 1(b) to give the title compound 0.0865 kg (77%; purity, g.l.c., 87.85%).
