The solvent was then removed under reduced pressure and the residue was taken up in 100 ml of ethyl acetate and extracted with 50 ml of water. The organic phase was dried over magnesium sulfate. After filtration, the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. This gave 4.8 g (12.23 mmol, 83% of theory) of a colorless solid.
