A mixture of (4S,5R)-5-[3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-3-[2-iodo-5-(trifluoromethyl)-benzyl]-4-methyl-1,3-oxazolidin-2-one (1.0 g, 1.68 mmol), 2-chloro-5-nitro phenyl boronic acid (0.67 g, 3.3 mmol), tetrakis(triphenylphosphine) palladium (97 mg, 5% mol) and sodium carbonate (0.39 g, 3.68 mmol) in 50 ml of water/EtOH/toluene (1:2:4) was heated to reflux for 4 h. TLC(CH2Cl2:hexane/1:1) showed that the reaction was complete. The solvents were removed. Water (30 ml) was added. The organic was extracted with methylene chloride (3×40 ml). The combined methylene chloride layers were washed with brine, and dried over sodium sulfate. The title compound was obtained after flash column using CH2Cl2:hexane/6:4 as the eluant. 1H NMR (CDCl3, 500 MHz): δ 1:1 mixture of roamers 8.16-8.31 (m, 1H), 8.21 (d, J=2.5 Hz, ½H), 8.16 (d, J=2.5 Hz, ½H), 7.90 (s, 1H), 7.71-7.78 (m, 5H), 7.42-7.46 (m, 1H), 5.66 (d, J=4.5 Hz, ½H), 5.64 (d, J=4.5 Hz, ½H), 4.93 (d, J=15.5 Hz, ½H), 4.79 (d, J=16 Hz, ½H), 4.03 (d, J=16 Hz, ½H), 3.94 (m, 1H), 3.91 (d, J=15.5 Hz, ½H), 0.70 (d, J=6.5 Hz, 1.5H), 0.64 (d, J=6.5 Hz, 1.5H).
