Hazard Traits - Developmental Toxicity; Neurotoxicity
Status: Active Update: 22-11-2010 https://echa.europa.eu/registration-dossier/-/registered-dossier/10137
Hazards Summary
A human metabolite of many organophosphate pesticides; Emergency treatment: Organophosphates; [HSDB] Dialkyl phosphate metabolites are considered non-toxic and do not inhibit cholinesterase activity like their parent pesticides; May also be found in the environment as a result of organophosphate pesticide degradation; [https://www.cdc.gov/biomonitoring/pdf/OP-DPM_FactSheet.pdf] A severe eye and moderate skin irritant; Causes effects to male fertility index in repeated inhalation studies of rats; [RTECS]

Cleanup Methods
AN ORGANOPHOSPHATE CONTAINING WASTEWATER IS TREATED AT PH 5-7.5 WITH ACTIVATED SLUDGE. THUS, AN ACTIVATED SLUDGE WAS ACCLIMATIZED IN A CULTURE MEDIUM CONTAINING DIMETHYL DITHIOPHOSPHATE AMMONIUM SALT; THEN THE SLUDGE WAS USED TO TREAT A DIMETHYL DITHIOPHOSPHATE CONTAINING WASTEWATER. THE TOTAL ORG C OF 83-87 PPM WAS REDUCED TO 17-19 PPM AFTER 12 HR OF TREATMENT.
THE ACTIVATED SLUDGE WAS ACCLIMATED TO O,O-DIMETHYL PHOSPHORODITHIOATE BY THE FILL & DRAW METHOD. THE ACCLIMATED, ACTIVATED SLUDGE DEGRADE 500 MG/L IN 7 HR. THE PH OF THE MIXED LIQUOR WAS ADJUSTED TO DEGRADE O,O-DIMETHYL PHOSPHORODITHIOATE & THE OPTIMUM PH WAS 6.5-7.0.
