Non-Human Toxicity Excerpts
THE MUTAGENIC ACTIVITIES OF EPOXIDE COMPOUNDS, INCLUDING GLYCERYL GLYCIDYL ETHER, WERE EXAMINED BY THE DNA REPAIR & REVERSION TESTS WITH STRAINS OF ESCHERICHIA COLI & SALMONELLA TYPHIMURIUM. WHEREIN SOME EPOXIDE COMPOUNDS OF RELATIVELY LOW MOLECULAR WEIGHT INDUCE MUTATION, THE MUTAGENICITY OF THE EPOXIDE RESINS MIGHT BE INFLUENCED BY THEIR SOLUBILITIES &(OR) TRANSPORTATION THROUGH CELLULAR MEMBRANES.
Glycidyl ethers are capable of producing testicular atrophy and hemopoietic abnormalities in various species of laboratory animals. /Glycidyl ethers/
Intramuscular injections of glycidyl ethers in Long-Evans rats ... produced ... up to 400 mg/kg ... CNS effects including muscular incoordination reduced motor activity, agitation, excitement, deep depression, /deep/ sleep, and coma. ... Route of administration ... important in the onset, duration, and severity of CNS effects. ... /Glycidyl ethers/
Glycidyl ethers produce widespread systemic effects ... necrosis, edema, inflammation, hyperemia, hemorrhaging, and tissue degeneration. /Glycidyl ethers/

Applications
DescriptionGlycerol triglycidyl ether is colorless to slight yellow transparent liquid.Glycerol triglycidyl ether is used in paint and coating applications such as appliance paint, boat paint, building coating, car paint, electrical insulating varnish, furniture paint, paper coating, plastic coating, road marking paint, rubber coating.
UsesGlycerol triglycidyl ether is widely used as viscosity-reducing diluents for epoxy resins and alkyd resins, as stabilizers for organochlorine compounds such as pesticides and herbicides, and as resin modifiers. Glycidyl ether is mainly used as a reactive diluent for epoxy resins, as well as in coatings, adhesives, and electrical components. Glycidyl allyl ether can be used as a flame-retardant modifier for unsaturated polyester resins. Glycidyl phenyl ether also has some applications in reactive diluents and as a base resin for coatings. The demand for glycidyl methyl ether is not large.
