Uses & manufacturing
Applications
UsesDimethylethoxysilane (DMES), a volatile liquid, is used by NASA to waterproof the heatprotective silica tiles and blankets on the space shuttle. DMES readily produces a variety of products in the presence of small amounts of moisture or bases. DMES readily produces a variety of products in the presence of small amounts of moisture or bases.
Preparation methods
PreparationAnhydrous ethanol is pumped from its storage tank to an ethanol vaporization reactor for vaporization using a transfer pump. Dimethyldichlorosilane is pumped from its storage tank to a dimethyldichlorosilane vaporization reactor for vaporization using a metering pump. The vaporized anhydrous ethanol enters a stripping reactor, and then enters an alcoholysis reactor to react with the vaporized dimethyldichlorosilane. The reacted material enters the alcoholysis reactor. When the liquid level in the alcoholysis reactor reaches 60% of the total height of the reactor cavity, half of the material in the alcoholysis reactor is pumped to the stripping reactor for acid removal, and the pump is stopped. The alcoholysis reactor continues to accumulate material, and when the liquid level in the reactor reaches 60% of the total height of the reactor cavity, material is fed back to the stripping reactor. When the temperature in the stripping reactor reaches the process control requirements, the material in the stripping reactor is pumped to a neutralizer using a neutralization agent: hexamethyldisilazane and N-(β-aminoethyl-γ-hydroxyl)-1-ethylhexylene. (-aminopropyl)methyldimethoxysilane and sodium ethoxide undergo a neutralization reaction; the neutralized material is transferred to a neutralization liquid storage tank via a salt mud settling tank for later use; hydrogen chloride gas is expelled from the stripping kettle and enters the alcoholysis kettle from the top of the stripping kettle to react with the hydrogen chloride generated in the reaction; the gas is then transferred to the tail gas system for absorption via a top cooler, and the waste acid water that absorbs hydrogen chloride is discharged to the waste acid treatment plant; the crude DIMETHYLETHOXYSILANE from the neutralization liquid storage tank is continuously pumped into the first purification tower for rectification separation, and the light component is removed from the top of the tower and enters the ethanol metering tank; the heavy component from the bottom of the tower is discharged into the desalination kettle, and the heavy component that enters the desalination kettle is desalinated and enters the second purification tower; the material entering the second purification tower is separated under vacuum conditions, and the material discharged from the bottom of the tower enters the high-boiling matter storage tank; the DIMETHYLETHOXYSILANE distilled from the top of the tower enters the positive product storage tank.
