Compounds which inhibit the synthesis of proteins. They are usually ANTI-BACTERIAL AGENTS or toxins. Mechanism of the action of inhibition includes the interruption of peptide-chain elongation, the blocking the A site of ribosomes, the misreading of the genetic code or the prevention of the attachment of oligosaccharide side chains to glycoproteins.
Substances that inhibit the growth or reproduction of BACTERIA.
DescriptionNetilmicin Sulfate is the sulfate salt form of netilimicin, a member of the aminoglycoside family of antibiotics. Netilmicin is derived from sisomicin, a naturally occurring aminoglycoside antibiotic produced by the fermentation of Micromonospora inyoensis. It is an active aminoglycoside antibiotic against most Gram-negative and some Gram-positive bacteria, including certain strains resistant to gentamicin.
UsesNetilmicin sulfate is used as a broad spectrum antibiotic active against most Gram-negative and some Gram-positive bacteria. It is a semisynthetic 1-N-ethyl derivative of sisomycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic with action similar to gentamicin, but has less ear and kidney toxicity. It is used to treat gram-negative bacterial infections, gonorrhea, skin infections, and other infectious diseases. Since netilmicin sulfate cannot be absorbed from the gut, it can only be administered by injection.
