Hazards Summary
Possible frostbite from contact with liquid; [NIOSH] MAPP gas is an explosive hazard. Reduce hazard by keeping concentrations below 10% of lower explosive limit (3400 ppm). It can cause anesthetic effects and at very high concentrations, asphyxiation. At an exposure level of 5000 ppm 7 hours/day, 5 days/week, experimental animals show decreased body weight. [ACGIH] Classified as Simple asphyxiant; [CAMEO] Methylacetylene-propadiene mixture, stabilized (UN1060) has warning of explosive polymerization; [ERG 2016] See Methylacetylene and Propadiene.

Safety & protection
First Aid
(General first aid procedures);Eye: Frostbite - If eye tissue is frozen, seek medical attention immediately; if tissue is not frozen, immediately and thoroughly flush the eyes with large amounts of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the lower and upper eyelids. If irritation, pain, swelling, lacrimation, or photophobia persist, get medical attention as soon as possible.;Skin: Frostbite - Compressed gases may create low temperatures when they expand rapidly. Leaks and uses that allow rapid expansion may cause a frostbite hazard. Wear appropriate personal protective clothing to prevent the skin from becoming frozen.;Breathing: Respiratory support

Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH)
3400.0 [ppm];Excerpts from Documentation for IDLHs: Basis for revised IDLH: Since a methyl acetylenepropadiene mixture appears to have relatively low toxicity, and based on an analogy to methyl acetylene [ACGIH 1991], the revised IDLH is 3,400 ppm based strictly on safety considerations (i.e., being 10% of the lower explosive limit of 3.4%).

General DescriptionMethylacetylene-propadiene stabilized is a colorless gas with an acetylene like odor. Methylacetylene and propadiene mixture, stabilized is shipped as a liquefied gas under its vapor pressure. Contact with the liquid can cause frostbite. Methylacetylene and propadiene mixture, stabilized is easily ignited. The vapors are heavier than air. Any leak can either be liquid or vapor. Methylacetylene and propadiene mixture, stabilized can asphyxiate by the displacement of air. Under prolonged exposure to fire or intense heat the containers may rupture violently and rocket.
