Applications · 1 item

UsesTantalum iodide, also known as tantalum pentaiodide, is an inorganic compound, a black powder with an orthorhombic crystal structure and a lattice constant a = 0.665 nm. It is one of the least stable tantalum compounds. Tantalum iodide absorbs moisture from air and hydrolyzes to tantalum pentoxide. At high temperatures, it readily decomposes into metallic tantalum and elemental iodine. Its easy sublimation and decomposition properties are utilized to produce high-purity tantalum.
