Procedure

A mixture of 0.17 g (0.7 mmol) 1-methoxycarbonylmethylquinoxaline-2,3(1H,4H)-dione and 10 ml 25% aqueous ammonia was stirred for 18 h. The product was filtered off and washed with cold water to give 0.05 g (32%) 1-carbamoylmethylquinoxaline-2,3(1H,4H)-dione. M.p. >300° C. MS m/c: 219 (M+, 40%), 119 (100%).
