Procedure
γ-Propyl-δ-1-pentenyl-δ-valerolactone was prepared from 2-propyl-2-heptenal and acrylonitrile analogous to Example 1. Yield of 2-(beta-cyanoethyl)-2-propyl-3-heptenal 38%, boiling at 118°-120° C. at 0.6 mm.; nD20 1.4640. Yield of γ-propyl-γ1-pentenyl-δ-valerolactone from this intermediate 40%, boiling at 107°-110° C. at 0.4 mm.; nD20 1.4749.
