The pyridine was removed in vacuo and the residue was treated with methylene chloride and water. The resultant precipitate was filtered to give N-[4(4-fluorophenyl)-5-(4-pyridinyl)-1H-pyrazol-3-yl]methanesulfonamide. Additional N-[4(4-fluorophenyl)-5-(4-pyridinyl)-1H-pyrazol-3-yl]methanesulfonamide was contained in the methylene chloride layer. The methylene chloride was stripped in vacuo and the residue purified by chromatography on silica gel using mixtures of ethyl acetate and methanol as eluents. The purified N-[4(4-fluorophenyl)-5-(4-pyridinyl)-1H-pyrazol-3-yl]methanesulfonamide had m.p. 168-170° C.
