Procedure

A bis-trimethylsilylcytosine solution was prepared by suspending 5.78 g of cytosine in 75 ml of dichloromethane and adding 20.57 ml of N-methyl-N-trimethylsilyltrifluoroacetamide and cooling the resulting solution to -30° C.
