Procedure

A bis-trimethylsilylcytosine solution was prepared by suspending 5.78 g of cytosine in 20 ml of dichloromethane and adding 20.57 ml of N-methyl-N-trimethylsilyltrifluoroacetamide in 10 ml of dichloromethane and cooling the resulting solution to 0° C.
