Procedure

2,6-Dimethyl-4H-pyran-4-one (4 g) was dissolved in ethanol (20 mL) and 10% Pd/C (400 mg) was added. The mixture was hydrogenated under H2 (1 atm) at room temperature for 25 hrs.
