Procedure
A solution of 3-bromo-4-methoxyphenylacetic acid (3.0 g, 12.2 mmol) in EtOH and sulfuric acid was stirred at 100° C. for 2 hours. The mixture was concentrated and partitioned between EtOAc and H2O, and the organic layer was separated to give the title compound.
