Procedure
To a solution of 0.9 g. of 2-(p-biphenylyl)-2-penten-4-ol (obtainable by Example 1) in 75 ml. of dry pyridine, 10 ml. of acetic anhydride is added. After 18 hours at room temperature, the mixture is poured onto ice and the solids filtered off and recrystallized from pentane to give 4-acetoxy-2-(4-biphenylyl)-2-pentene, m.p. 62°-64° C., which may also be designated 4-(p-biphenylyl)-penten-2-ol acetate.
