Procedure
7 g of phosphorus pentoxide and 70 g of methanesulfonic acid were mixed while stirring, dissolved and then stirred at room temperature. Thereto, 25 g (0.124 mol) of diphenyl sulfoxide and 20.4 g (0.136 mol) of n-butoxybenzene were added while stirring and stirred at 50° C. for 4 hours. The reaction solution obtained was poured into 500 ml of ice water, washed twice with 150 ml of toluene and rendered to be alkalescent by tetramethylammonium hydroxide, thereby obtaining an aqueous solution of butoxyphenyldiphenylsulfoniummethane sulfonate.
