SRP: At the time of review, criteria for land treatment or burial (sanitary landfill) disposal practices are subject to significant revision. Prior to implementing land disposal of waste residue (including waste sludge), consult with environmental regulatory agencies for guidance on acceptable disposal practices.

毒性情報

Environmental FateFLAME RETARDANT TETRAKIS(HYDROXYMETHYL)PHOSPHONIUM HYDROXIDE WAS RELEASED DURING WASHING OF FLAME RETARDANT-TREATED FABRICS AT CONCN LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO 10 MUG/SQ INCH OF FABRIC.
Adverse EffectsOccupational hepatotoxin - Secondary hepatotoxins: the potential for toxic effect in the occupational setting is based on cases of poisoning by human ingestion or animal experimentation.
Toxicity Summary · 1 件

The acute oral toxicity of /tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium chloride (THPC) and tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium sulfate (THPS)/ is moderate; dermal toxicity is low. In short term (up to 28 days) studies in rats and mice, the main toxic effect for both THPC and THPS is decreased body weight. ... In longer term studies, (13 weeks), the main target organ for toxicity is the liver. ... Carcinogenicity bioassays on THPC also showed effects on the liver ... THPS did not cause skin irritation when administered as a single dose to rabbits. However, repeated dermal exposure of rats resulted in severe skin reaction. THPC was corrosive. THPS was identified as severe eye irritant in rabbits. THPS and THPC-urea cause skin sensitization guinea pigs ... THPS and THPC-urea did not cause developmental toxicity in orally dosed experimental animals. There is no convincing evidence to suggest that fabrics treated with THP salts are mutagenic. Available information indicates that there is no genotoxic hazard to humans. THPC and THPS were not carcinogenic in rats and mice in 2-year bioasssays. Dermal studies have shown that THP salts are promoters of skin cancer but not initiators. THPS and THPO /trihydroxylmethylphosphine oxide/ did not inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity in vitro, suggesting a lack of neurotoxic hazard for humans. THPC-urea treated fabrics did not cause skin irritation in humans. ... No exposure information is available for either humans or organisms in the environment. Therefore, no quantitative risk assessment could be made.

Non-Human Toxicity Excerpts · 5 件

THE TOXICITY OF THE FLAME RETARDANTS, TRIS(2,3-DIBROMOPROPYL)PHOSPHATE, PYROVATEX CP, & TETRAKIS(HYDROXYMETHYL)PHOSPHONIUM HYDROXIDE (THPOH), WERE STUDIED IN A 30-DAY EXPERIMENT WITH GOLDFISH. AT A CONCN OF 1 PPM, THPOH WAS MORE TOXIC THAN PYROVATEX CP BUT LESS TOXIC THAN TRIS(2,3-DIBROMOPROPYL)PHOSPHATE. ALL FISH EXPOSED TO TRIS(2,3-DIBROMOPROPYL)PHOSPHATE WERE DEAD WITHIN 5 DAYS.

SPOT TESTS SHOWED TETRAMETHYLOLPHOSPHONIUM CHLORIDE TO BE NONMUTAGENIC IN SALMONELLA TYPHIMURIUM STRAINS TA100, TA98, TA1535 & TA1537 WITH & WITHOUT S-9 MIX USING 1,000, 300, 100 & 10 UG/PLATE.

Groups of ten 4 week old F-344/N rats of each sex were gavaged 5 days/week for 13 weeks with 0, 3.75, 7,5, 15, 30 or 60 mg THPC (as 75% aqueous solution) per kg. All males and 5/10 females that received 60 mg/kg died. The final mean body weight of males that received 30 mg/kg was 89% of vehicle controls. The final mean body weight of females that received 60 in mg/kg was 80% of vehicle controls.

Groups of five 6 week old, F 344/N rats of each sex were administered 0, 9.4, 18.8, 37.5, 75 or 150 mg THPC (as a 75% aqueous solution) per: kg body weight in deionized water by gavage 14 days. At the two highest dose levels an increased mortality was observed. At 75 mg/kg the mortality for males was 20%, and at 150 mg/kg all males and females died. The body weight gain of the male animals administered 18.8 and .37.5 mg/kg was decreased, respectively, by 7 and 11%. This effect was also found in the females administered 75 mg/kg (27%). Rats with 150 mg/kg had yellow to tan or mottled red livers. No histopathology was carried out.
