使用Methyl-5-norbornene-2,3-dicarboxylic anhydride is used as a curing agent in epoxy resins and in the preparation of vertically aligned and penetrated carbon nanotube/polymer film. It serves as an intermediate in polyesters, alkyd resins and plasticizers. It is also used in electrical laminating and filament-winding. Further, it is used in the preparation of methyl nadimides endcapped resins based on tris(3-aminophenyl)phosphine oxide. It is utilized in the flame retarding treatment.

純化方法Purify the anhydride by thin layer chromatography on Al2O3 (previously boiled in EtOAc) and eluted with hexane/*C6H6 (1:2) then recrystallise it from *C6H6/hexane. The free acid has m 118.5-119.5o. [Miranov et al. Tetrahedron 19 1939 1963, Beilstein 17/11 V 199.]
