Special ReportsUSEPA/Office of Pesticide ProgramsInterim Reregistration Eligibility Decision (IRED) for Ethoprop. EPA issues an IRED for a pesticide that is undergoing reregistration, requires a reregistration eligibility decision, and also needs a cumulative assessment under FQPA. The IRED, issued after EPA completes the individual pesticide\'s aggregate risk assessment, may include taking risk reduction measures -- for example, reducing risks to workers or eliminating uses that the registrant no longer wishes to maintain -- to gain the benefits of these changes before the final RED can be issued following the Agency\'s consideration of cumulative risks.[Available from, as of July 24, 2003: http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/reregistration/status.htm]
FIFRA 要件Tolerances are established for residues of the nematocide and insecticide (O-ethyl S,S-Dipropyl phosphorodithioate) in or on the following raw agricultural commodities: bananabean, limabean, snapcabbagecorn, foddercorn, foragecorn, fresh (including sweet K=CWHR)corn, graincucumberpeanutpeanut, haypineapplepotatosugarcaneand sweet potato. As the federal pesticide law FIFRA directs, EPA is conducting a comprehensive review of older pesticides to consider their health and environmental effects and make decisions about their future use. Under this pesticide reregistration program, EPA examines health and safety data for pesticide active ingredients initially registered before November 1, 1984, and determines whether they are eligible for reregistration. In addition, all pesticides must meet the new safety standard of the Food Quality Protection Act of 1996. Ethoprop is found on List A, which contains most food use pesticides and consists of the 194 chemical cases (or 350 individual active ingredients) for which EPA issued registration standards prior to FIFRA, as amended in 1988. Case No: 0106Pesticide type: insecticide, fungicide, (nematicide)Registration Standard Date: 06/01/88Case Status: OPP is reviewing data from the pesticide's producers regarding its human health and/or environmental effects, or OPP is determining the pesticide's eligibility for reregistration and developing the Reregistration Eligibility Decision (RED) document.Active ingredient (AI): EthopropData Call-in (DCI) Date(s): 09/15/92, 06/08/94, 10/13/95AI Status: The producers of the pesticide has made commitments to conduct the studies and pay the fees required for reregistration, and are meeting those commitments in a timely manner.Classified for restricted use and limited to use by or under the direct supervision of a certified applicator. Formulation: all granular and fertilizer formulationsUse Pattern: all usesClassification: under evaluation.Based on its review, EPA has identified risk mitigation measures that the Agency believes are necessary to address the human health and environmental risks associated with the current use of ethoprop, and various types of additional data that are necessary to confirm these risk mitigation measures. The Agency is now publishing its interim decision on the reregistration eligibility of and risk management decision for the current uses of ethoprop and its associated human health and environmental risks. The reregistration eligibility and tolerance reassessment decisions for ethoprop will be issued once the cumulative risks for all of the OP pesticides are considered. The Agency may need to pursue further risk management measures for ethoprop once cumulative risks are considered. The ...Interim Reregistration Eligibility Decision for Ethoprop, which was approved on September 28, 2001, contains the Agencys decision on the individual chemical ethoprop.
Reactivity ProfileOrganothiophosphates, such as ETHOPROPHOS, are susceptible to formation of highly toxic and flammable phosphine gas in the presence of strong reducing agents such as hydrides. Partial oxidation by oxidizing agents may result in the release of toxic phosphorus oxides.

非火災時の漏出対応Excerpt from ERG Guide 152 [Substances - Toxic (Combustible)]:ELIMINATE all ignition sources (no smoking, flares, sparks or flames) from immediate area. Do not touch damaged containers or spilled material unless wearing appropriate protective clothing. Stop leak if you can do it without risk. Prevent entry into waterways, sewers, basements or confined areas. Cover with plastic sheet to prevent spreading. Absorb or cover with dry earth, sand or other non-combustible material and transfer to containers. DO NOT GET WATER INSIDE CONTAINERS. (ERG, 2024)
処分方法SRP: The most favorable course of action is to use an alternative chemical product with less inherent propensity for occupational exposure or environmental contamination. Recycle any unused portion of the material for its approved use or return it to the manufacturer or supplier. Ultimate disposal of the chemical must consider: the material's impact on air qualitypotential migration in soil or watereffects on animal, aquatic, and plant lifeand conformance with environmental and public health regulations.
漏出処分Personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus. Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent. Then store and dispose of according to local regulations. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment.
Preventive MeasuresDo not contaminate water, food, feed by storage or disposal.Avoid contact with skin and eyes and inhalation of fumes and dust.If material not on fire and not involved in fire: Keep sparks, flames, and other sources of ignition away. Keep material out of water sources and sewers. /Organophosphorus pesticides, solid, toxicIf material not on fire and not involved in fire: Keep sparks, flames, and other sources of ignition away. Isolation and EvacuationExcerpt from ERG Guide 152 [Substances - Toxic (Combustible)]:IMMEDIATE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE: Isolate spill or leak area in all directions for at least 50 meters (150 feet) for liquids and at least 25 meters (75 feet) for solids.SPILL: Increase the immediate precautionary measure distance, in the downwind direction, as necessary.FIRE: If tank, rail tank car or highway tank is involved in a fire, ISOLATE for 800 meters (1/2 mile) in all directionsalso, consider initial evacuation for 800 meters (1/2 mile) in all directions. (ERG, 2024)
TreatmentIf the compound has been ingested, rapid gastric lavage should be performed using 5% sodium bicarbonate. For skin contact, the skin should be washed with soap and water. If the compound has entered the eyes, they should be washed with large quantities of isotonic saline or water. In serious cases, atropine and/or pralidoxime should be administered. Anti-cholinergic drugs work to counteract the effects of excess acetylcholine and reactivate AChE. Atropine can be used as an antidote in conjunction with pralidoxime or other pyridinium oximes (such as trimedoxime or obidoxime), though the use of '-oximes' has been found to be of no benefit, or possibly harmful, in at least two meta-analyses. Atropine is a muscarinic antagonist, and thus blocks the action of acetylcholine peripherally.
相互作用Because different classes of enzymes may be inhibited, the effects of organophosphorus pesticide poisoning may be complex and potentially at least could involve interactions with drugs as well as with other pesticides or chemicals. Potentiation may also involve solvents or other components of formulated pesticides. Certain drugs such a phenothiazines, antihistamines, CNS depressants, barbiturates, xanthines (theophylline), aminoglycosides and parasympathomimetic agents are to be avoided because of increased toxicity. /Organophosphorus pesticides/
健康影響Acute exposure to cholinesterase inhibitors can cause a cholinergic crisis characterized by severe nausea/vomiting, salivation, sweating, bradycardia, hypotension, collapse, and convulsions. Increasing muscle weakness is a possibility and may result in death if respiratory muscles are involved. Accumulation of ACh at motor nerves causes overstimulation of nicotinic expression at the neuromuscular junction. When this occurs symptoms such as muscle weakness, fatigue, muscle cramps, fasciculation, and paralysis can be seen. When there is an accumulation of ACh at autonomic ganglia this causes overstimulation of nicotinic expression in the sympathetic system. Symptoms associated with this are hypertension, and hypoglycemia. Overstimulation of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the central nervous system, due to accumulation of ACh, results in anxiety, headache, convulsions, ataxia, depression of respiration and circulation, tremor, general weakness, and potentially coma. When there is expression of muscarinic overstimulation due to excess acetylcholine at muscarinic acetylcholine receptors symptoms of visual disturbances, tightness in chest, wheezing due to bronchoconstriction, increased bronchial secretions, increased salivation, lacrimation, sweating, peristalsis, and urination can occur. Certain reproductive effects in fertility, growth, and development for males and females have been linked specifically to organophosphate pesticide exposure. Most of the research on reproductive effects has been conducted on farmers working with pesticides and insecticdes in rural areas. In females menstrual cycle disturbances, longer pregnancies, spontaneous abortions, stillbirths, and some developmental effects in offspring have been linked to organophosphate pesticide exposure. Prenatal exposure has been linked to impaired fetal growth and development. Neurotoxic effects have also been linked to poisoning with OP pesticides causing four neurotoxic effects in humans: cholinergi

環境中動態TERRESTRIAL FATE: Based on a classification scheme(1), Koc values in the range of 70-120(2-4), indicate that ethoprop is expected to have high mobility in soil(SRC). Volatilization of ethoprop from moist soil surfaces is not expected to be an important fate process(SRC), given a Henry's Law constant of 1.62X10-7 atm-cu m/mole(SRC), derived from ethoprop's vapor pressure, 0.00038 mm Hg(2) and water solubility, 750 mg/l(2). Ethoprop is not expected to volatilize from dry soil surfaces(SRC) based upon its vapor pressure(2). However, under laboratory conditions, volatilization of ethoprop residue after 12 hours was reported as 1.4-3.6, 2.3-4.5, and 6.5-20.2% from sandy loam soil with 1, 10 and 20 % moisture levels, respectively(7). The US Department of Agriculture's Pesticide Properties Database lists a soil half-life of 25 days for ethoprop(2), but half-lives may range from 3-56 days(4). Due to microbial adaptation, ethoprop degrades more rapidly in soils that have had prior exposure to ethoprop(5,6). Half-lives for photolysis of ethoprop in soil in the sunlight and shade were 4.7 and 12.3 days, respectively(7).AQUATIC FATE: Based on a classification scheme(1), Koc values ranging from 70-120(2-3), indicate that ethoprop is not expected to adsorb to suspended solids and sediment(SRC). Volatilization from water surfaces is not expected(4) based upon a Henry's Law constant of 1.62X10-7 atm-cu m/mole(SRC), derived from a vapor pressure of 0.00038 mm Hg(2) and water solubility 750 mg/l(2). According to a classification scheme(5), BCFs ranging from 4-17(6) suggest the potential for bioconcentration in aquatic organisms is low(SRC). Ethoprop is very stable in neutral and weakly acidic media, but is rapidly hydrolyzed in alkaline media(7). The major degradation pathway for ethoprop under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions is hydrolysis to O-ethyl-S-propyl-phosphorothioic acid(8). The hydrolytic half-lives of ethoprop in distilled, river, brackish and open sea water were 25, 133, 65, and 81 days, respectively(9). Half-lives of 75 and 90 days have been found in sand sediment/water and silt loam sediment/water systems(10).ATMOSPHERIC FATE: According to a model of gas/particle partitioning of semivolatile organic compounds in the atmosphere(1), ethoprop, which has a vapor pressure of 0.00038 mm Hg at 20-25 °C(2), is expected to exist solely as a vapor in the ambient atmosphere. Vapor-phase ethoprop is degraded in the atmosphere by reaction with photochemically-produced hydroxyl radicals(SRC)the half-life for this reaction in air is estimated to be 5.6 hours(SRC), calculated from its rate constant of 6.9X10-11 cu cm/molecule-sec at 25 °C(SRC), that was derived using a structure estimation method(3). While ethoprop was found to undergo photolysis on soil(4), no data were found regarding photolysis by sunlight in air(SRC).
食品調査値In a summary of pesticide residue findings of the US Food and Drug Admin's regulatory monitoring of domestic foods which may be eaten by infants/children for fiscal years 1985-1991, ethoprop was detected (concn of 0.14 ppm) in 1 of 2464 apple samples(1). In a US monitoring survey of 6970 produce samples (fruits and vegetables) collected between 1989 and 1991, ethoprop was not detected in any sample at a detection limit of 0.05 ppm(2). In 1989 monitoring conducted by the California Dept of Food and Agric, ethoprop was not detected (detection limit not reported) in any cabbage (1 sample) or potato (10 samples) samples(3). Ethoprop was detected in the ethyl acetate and dichloromethane extracts of brown rice, potato, cabbage, lettuce, carrot, cucumber, apple, strawberry, and banana obtain from a local retail store in Japan(4). Ethoprop was found in foods in an 1994 US regulatory monitoring study(5).

毒性の概要Ethoprop is a cholinesterase or acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor. A cholinesterase inhibitor (or 'anticholinesterase') suppresses the action of acetylcholinesterase. Because of its essential function, chemicals that interfere with the action of acetylcholinesterase are potent neurotoxins, causing excessive salivation and eye-watering in low doses, followed by muscle spasms and ultimately death. Nerve gases and many substances used in insecticides have been shown to act by binding a serine in the active site of acetylcholine esterase, inhibiting the enzyme completely. Acetylcholine esterase breaks down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is released at nerve and muscle junctions, in order to allow the muscle or organ to relax. The result of acetylcholine esterase inhibition is that acetylcholine builds up and continues to act so that any nerve impulses are continually transmitted and muscle contractions do not stop. Among the most common acetylcholinesterase inhibitors are phosphorus-based compounds, which are designed to bind to the active site of the enzyme. The structural requirements are a phosphorus atom bearing two lipophilic groups, a leaving group (such as a halide or thiocyanate), and a terminal oxygen.

用途

説明

Introduced in the 1960s, ethoprop is a nonsystemic insecticide/nematicide. The mobility of ethoprop in soil and its half-life are strongly dependent on soil organic matter (21). It is not known to be carcinogenic and is available as granules or emulsifiable concentrates.

使用

Ethoprophos is an organophosphate non-systemic nematicide and soil insecticide. Ethoprophos is an acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor.

一般的な説明

Ethorop is one of a family of organophosphorus pesticides. Mocap is combustible though Mocap may require some effort to ignite. Mocap is very toxic by skin absorption and inhalation. Mocap may or may not be water soluble.
