応用分野
解説L-エチオニン．C2H5S(CH2)2CH(NH2)CO2H．メチオニンの同族体．自然界には大腸菌からしか見いだされていない．L-ホモシステインに臭化エチルを作用させると合成できる．融点265～280 ℃(分解)．[α]D＋23.7°(1 mol L－1 塩酸)．ネズミの成長に対してメチオニンときっ抗的にはたらき，メチオニン欠乏の動物にエチオニンを与えると体重が軽くなる．タンパク質合成阻害剤として使用する．
用途アミノ酸研究用。
使用Ethionine-induced inhibition of protein synthesis and lowering of ATP level in the liver.
調製方法
純化方法Likely impurities are N-acetyl-(R and S)-ethionine, S-methionine, and R-ethionine. Crystallise it from water by adding 4volumes of EtOH or 85% aqueous EtOH. It sublimes at 196-216o/0.3mm with 99.1% recovery and unracemised [Gross & Gradsky J Am Chem Soc 77 1678 1955].
