21.2 Parts of o-xylene, 128 parts of 98% w/w sulphuric acid, 24 parts of methanol, and 36.3 parts of heptaminol hydrochloride were stirred at room temperature for 3 days. The work up was carried out as described in Example 2 and gave on distillation 36.2 parts of 2-amino-6-(3,4-dimethylphenyl)-6-methylheptane b16 164°-8° with the following percentage composition by weight.
