実験手順
A mixture containing 30 g. (0.10 mole) of the product of step C, 14.5 g. (0.22 mole) of 85 percent potassium hydroxide, 400 ml. of ethanol and 50 ml. of water is heated at its reflux temperature for 16 hours, cooled and filtered. The product is washed with ethanol, suspended in water and acidified with 6N hydrochloric acid. The mixture is heated on a steam bath for one hour, cooled and filtered. Recrystallization from ethanol provides 3,5-diphenylbenzofuran-7-carboxylic acid as a white solid.
