Trifluoroethyl iodide (13.16 mL, 133 mmol) was added in a drop wise manner to the reaction mixture at RT. The mixture was then heated at 60° C. for 4 h. After completion of reaction, the mixture was poured into water and extracted with ethyl acetate (2×100 mL). The combined organic layers were washed with water, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated under reduced pressure. The crude compound was purified by column chromatography to give compound ethyl 2-(3-bromo-5-chloro-4-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)phenyl)acetate (6.5 g) as a white solid.
