용도(E)-6,10-Dimethylundeca-5,9-dien-2-one is diastereoselective used in preparation of Geranyl Acetone by Carroll reaction of linalool with Acetoacetate. This ketone, which was developed as an intermediate in the synthesis of Nerolidol, has been suggested for use in perfume compositions, particularly in soap perfumes, where its superior stability makes it a very reliable Itorahzer anct sweetener in floral compositions.

By reaction of linalool and ethyl acetoacetate with an alkaline catalyst and subsequent rearrangement and decarboxylation.
