It is used as a precursor for the preparation of other cerium salts, such as cerium(III) trifluoromethanesulfonate.

생산 방법Cerium(III) chloride is prepared by the reaction of hydrochloric acid with a cerium salt, such as cerium hydroxide or carbonate, followed by crystallization; Ce(OH)3 + 3HCl → CeCl3 + 3H2O Ce2(CO3)3 + 6HCl → 2CeCl3 + 3CO2 + 3H2O.
