Formaldehyde may be absorbed following inhalation, oral, or dermal exposure. It is an essential metabolic intermediate in all cells and is produced during the normal metabolism of serine, glycine, methionine, and choline and also by the demethylation of N-, S-, and O-methyl compounds. Exogenous formaldehyde is metabolized to formate by the enzyme formaldehyde dehydrogenase at the initial site of contact. After oxidation of formaldehyde to formate, the carbon atom is further oxidized to carbon dioxide or incorporated into purines, thymidine, and amino acids via tetrahydrofolatedependent one-carbon biosynthetic pathways. Formaldehyde is not stored in the body and is excreted in the urine (primarily as formic acid), incorporated into other cellular molecules, or exhaled as carbon dioxide. (L962)

Using Disinfectants or Biocides [Category: Clean]
Diazolidinyl urea is an antimicrobial preservative used in many cosmetics, skin care products, shampoos and conditioners, as well as a wide range of products including bubble baths, baby wipes and household detergents. Diazolidinyl urea is found in the commercially available preservative Germaben. (L1895)

On the basis of the animal and clinical data presented in this report, the CIR Expert Panel concludes that Diazolidinyl Urea is safe as a cosmetic ingredient up to a maximum concentration of 0.5 percent. Note: In 2006, the CIR Expert Panel considered available new data on this ingredient and confirmed the above conclusion.
Safe for use in cosmetics, with qualifications
Diazolidinyl urea is a formaldehyde releaser. It is likely that formaldehyde toxicity occurs when intracellular levels saturate formaldehyde dehydrogenase activity, allowing the unmetabolized intact molecule to exert its effects. Formaldehyde is known to form cross links between protein and DNA and undergo metabolic incorporation into macromolecules (DNA, RNA, and proteins). (L962, L1895)
개요Diazolidinyl urea was first introduced in 1982 (Sutton Labs, Chatham, New Jersey). It is a colorless, odorless, stable, and water-soluble preservative. It is reported to have a wider antimicrobial spectrum than imidazolidinyl urea, which is structurally related. It is effective against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, molds, and yeast but has limited activity against fungi. Diazolidinyl urea, a formaldehyde re1easer, is mainly contained in cosmetics and toiletries, and can be found in barrier creams.
용도diazolidinyl urea is an antiseptic and deodorizer. It is also a broadspectrum preservative against bacteria and fungi. generally, it is used in concentrations of 0.03 to 0.3 percent. It has been found that diazolidinyl urea is a stronger sensitizer than imidazolidinyl urea for people sensitive or allergic to formaldehyde.
