화학적 성질

Bifenthrin is a member of the pyrethroid chemical class. It is an insecticide and acaricide. Bifenthrin is off-white to pale tan waxy solid granules with a faint, musty odor and slightly sweet smell. Bifenthrin is soluble in methylene chloride, acetone, chloroform, ether, and toluene, and is slightly soluble in heptane and methanol. It is slightly combustible and support combustion at elevated temperatures. Thermal decomposition and burning may form toxic by-products, such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen chloride, and hydrogen fl uoride. Bifentrin treatment affects the nervous system and causes paralysis in insects.

TreatmentFollowing oral exposure, the treatment is symptomatic and supportive and includes monitoring for the development of hypersensitivity reactions with respiratory distress. Provide adequate airway management when needed. Gastric decontamination is usually not required unless the pyrethrin product is combined with a hydrocarbon. Following inhalation exposure, move patient to fresh air. monitor for respiratory distress. If cough or difficulty breathing develops, evaluate for respiratory tract irritation, bronchitis, or pneumonitis. Administer oxygen and assist ventilation as required. Treat bronchospasm with inhaled beta2 agonist and oral or parenteral corticosteroids. In case of eye exposure, irrigate exposed eyes with copious amounts of room temperature water for at least 15 minutes. If irritation, pain, swelling, lacrimation, or photophobia persist, the patient should be seen in a health care facility. If the contamination occurs through dermal exposure, remove contaminated clothing and wash exposed area thoroughly with soap and water. A physician may need to examine the area if irritation or pain persists. Vitamin E topical application is highly effective in relieving parenthesis. (T36)
상호 작용A novel two-tiered analytical approach was used to characterize and quantify interactions between Type I and Type II pyrethroids on Hyalella azteca using standardized water column toxicity tests. Bifenthrin, permethrin, cyfluthrin and lambda-cyhalothrin were tested in all possible binary combinations across six experiments. All mixtures were analyzed for 4 d lethality, and two of the six mixtures (permethrin-bifenthrin and permethrin-cyfluthrin) were tested for subchronic 10 d lethality and sublethal effects on swimming motility and growth. Mixtures were initially analyzed for interactions using regression analyses, and subsequently compared to the additive models of Concentration Addition (CA) and Independent Action (IA) to further characterize mixture responses. Negative interactions (antagonistic) were significant in two of the six mixtures tested, including cyfluthrin-bifenthrin and cyfluthrin-permethrin, but only on the acute 4d lethality endpoint. In both cases mixture responses fell between the additive models of CA and IA. All other mixtures were additive across 4 d lethality, and bifenthrin-permethrin and cyfluthrin-permethrin were also additive on subchronic 10 d lethality and sublethal responses.Piperonyl butoxide ... potentiates /insecticidal activity/ of pyrethrins by inhibiting the hydrolytic enzymes responsible for pyrethrins' metabolism in arthropods. When piperonyl butoxide is combined with pyrethrins, the insecticidal activity of the latter drug is increased 2-12 times /Pyrethrins/At dietary level of 1000 ppm pyrethrins & 10000 ppm piperonyl butoxide ... /enlargement, margination, & cytoplasmic inclusions in liver cells of rats/ were well developed in only 8 days, but ... were not maximal. Changes were proportional to dosage & similar to those produced by DDT. Effects of the 2 ... were additive. /Pyrethrins/Three carbamate (formetanate, methomyl, pyrimicarb) and one pyrethroid (bifenthrin) insecticides were investigated both as pure chemicals and as commercial formulations in order to unveil possible toxic effects of additives and solvents present in the commercial formulations and to evaluate the cellular stress response as a defense mechanism. Toxic effects were evaluated on A549 cells, derived from a human lung carcinoma, by measuring (1) threshold concentrations leading to a decrease of the growth rate (LOEC), (2) sublethal concentrations (SC) which arrested growth without killing the cells, and (3) expression levels of several stress proteins, i.e., HSP27, HSP72/73, HSP90, GRP78, and GRP94. As compared to the pure active molecule, LOEC appeared at lower concentrations when using the commercial formulations, i.e., Dicarzol (formetanate), Lannate20 (methomyl) and Talstar or Kiros EV (bifenthrin). Propylene glycol and propylene glycol monomethyl ether, respectively, present in Talstar and kiros, do not account for the high toxicity of these commercial formulations and do not potentiate the toxicity of bifenthrin. Additive but not synergistic adverse effects were observed when cells are exposed to a mixture of 4 different commercial formulations ... GRP78 was up-regulated by all the insecticides, commercial preparations being more efficient to trigger the stress reaction. This suggests that insecticides and additives present in commercial formulations disrupt ER functions. Conversely, HSP72/73 was found to be down-regulated by all the insecticides. This seems to be related with a decrease of protein synthesis in the cytosol, as a result of the ER unfolded protein response. Indeed, tunicamycin, known to inhibit N-linked glycosylation in the ER, was found to induce a similar inverse correlation between GRP78 overexpression and HSP72/73 under-expression. Expression of GRP94 was found to be increased and HSP27 lowered by the highest concentrations of bifenthrin commercial formulations. Methomyl and Lannate20 only induced an under-expression of HSP90.

환경 거동TERRESTRIAL FATE: Based on a classification scheme(1), Koc values for bifenthrin ranging from 8,387 to 14,332(2) indicate that bifenthrin is expected to be immobile in soil(SRC). Volatilization of bifenthrin from moist soil surfaces is expected to be an important fate process(SRC) given an estimated Henry's Law constant of 1.0X10-6 atm-cu m/mole(SRC), developed using a fragment estimation method(3). However, adsorption to soil is expected to attenuate volatilization(SRC). Bifenthrin is not expected to volatilize from dry soil surfaces(SRC) based upon its vapor pressure of 1.34X10-8 mm Hg(4). Bifenthrin is stable in soil over a wide range of pHits degradation rate is influenced by soil characteristics(2). Using soils typical of Australia, bifenthrin, present at a concentration of 4.5 mg/kg and incubated for 24 months exhibited half-lives of 1332 to 1410 days(5) indicating that biodegradation is not an important environmental fate process in soil(SRC).AQUATIC FATE: Based on a classification scheme(1), Koc values ranging from 8,387 to 14,332(2) indicate that bifenthrin is expected to adsorb to suspended solids and sediment(SRC). Volatilization from water surfaces is expected(3) based upon an estimated Henry's Law constant of 1.0X10-6 atm-cu m/mole(SRC), developed using a fragment constant estimation method(4). Using this Henry's Law constant and an estimation method(3), volatilization half-lives for a model river and model lake are 4.2 hours and 37 days, respectively(SRC). However, volatilization from water surfaces is expected to be attenuated by adsorption to suspended solids and sediment in the water column(SRC). The estimated volatilization half-life from a model pond is 62 years if adsorption is considered(5). According to a classification scheme(6), a log BCF of 3.8(7) corresponding to a BCF of 6,100(SRC) indicates that bioconcentration in aquatic organisms is very high(SRC). Bifenthrin was reported to be stable to hydrolysis at pH 5, 7, and 9 at 25 °C(8). The compound is very stable in aquatic environments(2) indicating that biodegradation is not an important environmental fate process in water(SRC).ATMOSPHERIC FATE: According to a model of gas/particle partitioning of semivolatile organic compounds in the atmosphere(1), bifenthrin, which has a vapor pressure of 1.34X10-8 mm Hg at 20 °C(2), will exist in both the vapor and particulate phases in the ambient atmosphere. Vapor-phase bifenthrin is degraded in the atmosphere by reaction with photochemically-produced hydroxyl radicals(SRC)the half-life for this reaction in air is estimated to be 4 hours(SRC), calculated from its rate constant of 3.0X10-11 cu cm/molecule-sec at 25 °C(SRC) that was derived using a structure estimation method(3). Particulate-phase bifenthrin may be removed from the air by wet and dry deposition(SRC). Pyrethroids, such as bifenthrin, are expected to undergo photodegradation in the environmental UV spectrum (>290 nm)(4)therefore, bifenthrin may be susceptible to direct photolysis by sunlight(SRC).

Bifenthrin was not mutagenic in the Ames assay, and did not produce chromosome aberrations in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells. ECOTOXICITY STUDIES: Based on available data, bifenthrin has been classified as slightly toxic on an acute basis to birds. Bifenthrin showed no adverse effects to reproduction at the highest concentration tested for birds. Mammalian toxicity data suggest that this compound is moderately toxic to small mammals on an acute basis. Relative to steelhead, rainbow trout have different responses to bifenthrin acute toxicity as well as different rates of hepatic bifenthrin biotransformation. Bifenthrin is highly toxic on an acute and chronic basis to freshwater fish and aquatic-phase amphibians, and very highly toxic to freshwater aquatic invertebrates. Bifenthrin has also been classified as very highly toxic to estuarine/marine fish and invertebrates on an acute basis.Pyrethroids exert their effect by prolonging the open phase of the sodium channel gates when a nerve cell is excited. They appear to bind to the membrane lipid phase in the immediate vicinity of the sodium channel, thus modifying the channel kinetics. This blocks the closing of the sodium gates in the nerves, and thus prolongs the return of the membrane potential to its resting state. The repetitive (sensory, motor) neuronal discharge and a prolonged negative afterpotential produces effects quite similar to those produced by DDT, leading to hyperactivity of the nervous system which can result in paralysis and/or death. Other mechanisms of action of pyrethroids include antagonism of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-mediated inhibition, modulation of nicotinic cholinergic transmission, enhancement of noradrenaline release, and actions on calcium ions. The authors evaluated the in vivo concentration-dependent ability of bifenthrin and permethrin to induce choriogenin (an estrogen-responsive protein) in Menidia beryllina /silverside/, a fish species known to reside in pyrethroid-contaminated aquatic habitats. The authors then compared the in vivo response with an in vitro assay--chemical activated luciferase gene expression (CALUX). Juvenile M. beryllina exposed to bifenthrin (1, 10, 100 ng/L), permethrin (0.1, 1, 10 ug/L), and ethinylestradiol (1, 10, 50 ng/L) had significantly higher ng/mL choriogenin (Chg) measured in whole body homogenate than controls. Though Chg expression in fish exposed to ethinylestradiol (EE2) exhibited a traditional sigmoidal concentration response, curves fit to Chg expressed in fish exposed to pyrethroids suggest a unimodal response, decreasing slightly as concentration increases. Whereas the in vivo response indicated that bifenthrin and permethrin or their metabolites act as estrogen agonists, the CALUX assay demonstrated estrogen antagonism by the pyrethroids. The results, supported by evidence from previous studies, suggest that bifenthrin and permethrin, or their metabolites, appear to act as estrogen receptor (ER) agonists in vivo, and that the unmetabolized pyrethroids, particularly bifenthrin, act as an ER antagonist in cultured mammalian cells./AQUATIC SPECIES/ ... In the present study, the zebrafish were exposed to environmental concentrations of cis-bifenthrin (BF), 1R-cis-BF and 1S-cis-BF during the embryos developmental stage. ...mRNA levels of the most genes related to oxidative stress, apoptosis and immunotoxicity including Cu/Zn-superoxide dismutase (Cu/Zn-Sod), catalase (Cat), P53, murine double minute 2 (Mdm2), B-cell lymphoma/leukemia-2 gene (Bcl2), Bcl2 associated X protein (Bax), apoptotic protease activating factor-1 (Apaf1), Caspase 9 (Cas9), Caspase 3 (Cas3), interleukin-1 beta (IL-1beta) and interleukin-8(Il-8) were much higher in 1S-cis-BF treated group than those in cis-BF or 1R-cis-BF treated ones, suggesting that 1S-cis-BF has higher risk to induced oxidative stress, apoptosis and immunotoxicity than 1R-cis-BF in zebrafish. The information presented in this study will help with elucidating the differences and environmental risk of the two enantiomers of cis-BF-induced toxicity in aquatic organisms./AQUATIC SPECIES/ ... Male steelhead (Oncorhynchus mykiss) exposed to bifenthrin (0.1 and 1.5 ug/L) for two weeks had a lower gonadosomatic index (GSI) in freshwater but were not affected by concurrent bifenthrin exposure and saltwater acclimation. Plasma estradiol-17beta (E2) levels and ovarian follicle diameter of fish exposed to bifenthrin (0.1 and 1.5 ug/L) in freshwater significantly increased. Under hypersaline conditions, fish exposed to bifenthrin had significantly reduced E2 levels and smaller follicles, and unhealthy ovarian follicles were observed. ...For more Ecotoxicity Excerpts (Complete) data for Bifenthrin (33 total), please visit the HSDB record page.

용도

개요

Bifenthrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide/miticide/acaricide. Bifenthrin is off-white to pale tan waxy solid granules with a faint, musty odour and a slightly sweet smell. Bifenthrin is soluble in methylene chloride, acetone, chloroform, ether, and toluene and slightly soluble in heptane and methanol. It is slightly combustible and support combustion at elevated temperatures. Thermal decomposition and burning may form toxic byproducts such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen chloride, and hydrogen fluoride. Bifenthrin treatment affects the nervous system and causes paralysis in insects.
