화학적 성질

Dilauroyl peroxide (Lauroyl peroxide) is a tasteless, coarse, white powder. Dilauroyl peroxide is not a deflagration hazard. However, it has been judged an intermediate fire hazard by Noller et al. When all the physical tests available for this peroxide are evaluated collectively, it actually ranks as a low physical hazard .

Becomes sensitive to shock when hot. Containers may explode in a fire. May ignite or explode spontaneously if mixed with flammable materials.Fire Precautions (In case of outbreak): Spray water hoses from areas as far as possible and free from possible explosion risk. If fire occurs in the vicinity of this agent, spray abundant water over the containers to protect from overheating. Reactivity ProfileLAUROYL PEROXIDE is an oxidizing agent. Can ignite organic materialshence a dangerous fire and explosion risk [Hawley]. Strongly reduced material such as sulfides, nitrides, and hydrides may react explosively. Vigorous reactions with other reducing agents. With charcoal sometimes ignites. [Bretherick, 5th ed., 1995, p. 1194].
소화Fire Extinguishing Agents: Water, dry chemical, foam, or carbon dioxide (USCG, 1999)Use water in large amounts, water spray. In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. Combat fire from a sheltered position.
응급 조치Fresh air, rest.Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap.First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then refer for medical attention.Rinse mouth. Give one or two glasses of water to drink. Refer for medical attention .
응급 처치EYES: wash with plenty of water for 15 min. and get medical attention.
안전 보관Fireproof. Separated from combustible substances and reducing agents. Cool.
소화 절차WATER, DRY CHEMICAL, FOAM, OR CARBON DIOXIDE.Combat fires from behind barrier. Flood discharge area with water. Cool exposed containers with water. In case of fire, water should be applied by the sprinkler system or by hose from a safe distance, preferably with a fog nozzle. Foam may be necessary instead if the peroxide is diluted in a low density flammable solvent. Portable extinguishers should not be used except for very small fires. Peroxides threatened by fire should be wetted from a safe distance for cooling. /Peroxides, Organic and Inorganic/
보관 조건Store in a cool, well-ventilated storage of noncombustible construction, distant from residences. Separate from other stocks, especially vulcanizing agents, easily oxidizable organic materials, and combustible materialavoid fire and sparks. Provide large-quantity storage room with cool sprinkler system. Protect containers against physical damage. Do not open containers in storage room. Do not place in glass-stopper or screw-capped containers because of possible explosion caused by frictional handling.STORAGE REQUIREMENTS: KEEP AS COOL AS POSSIBLE, BUT BELOW 27 °C. DO NOT ADD HOT MATERIAL.STORAGE REQUIREMENTS: BECAUSE OF THEIR INSTABILITY, MANY PEROXIDES ARE STORED AND HANDLED IN INERT VEHICLE SUCH AS DIMETHYL PHTHALATE. /PEROXIDES, ORG/STORAGE REQUIREMENTS: IN COMMERCIAL HANDLING, SHOCK-SENSITIVE PEROXIDES ARE DILUTED WITH SOME INACTIVE VEHICLE (EG DIMETHYL PHTHALATE). /PEROXIDES, ORGANIC/
정리 방법Isolate and remove discharged material. Notify local health and pollution control agencies.IN CASE OF SPILLS, SUPPLY OF INACTIVE ABSORBENT MATERIAL (EG VERMICULITE) SHOULD BE AVAILABLE. /PEROXIDES, ORG/Spills should be cleaned up promptly using non-sparking tools and an inert, moist diluent such as vermiculite or sand. Sweepings may be placed in open containers or polyethylene bags and the area washed with water and detergent. Spilled, contaminated, waste or questionable peroxides should be destroyed. /Peroxides, Organic and Inorganic/Most peroxides can be hydrolyzed by adding them slowly with stirring to about ten times their weight of cold 10% sodium hydroxide solution. The reaction may require several hours. /Peroxides, Organic and Inorganic/Dilute and drain into the sewer with abundant water. /Hydrogen peroxide/
비화재 누출 대응Excerpt from ERG Guide 145 [Organic Peroxides (Heat and Contamination Sensitive)]:
처리 방법SRP: At the time of review, criteria for land treatment or burial (sanitary landfill) disposal practices are subject to significant revision. Prior to implementing land disposal of waste residue (including waste sludge), consult with environmental regulatory agencies for guidance on acceptable disposal practices.
누출 처리Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Personal protection: particulate filter respirator adapted to the airborne concentration of the substance. Remove all ignition sources. Do NOT absorb in saw-dust or other combustible absorbents. Sweep spilled substance into covered containers. If appropriate, moisten first to prevent dusting. Carefully collect remainder. Then store and dispose of according to local regulations.
Preventive MeasuresSRP: The scientific literature for the use of contact lenses in industry is conflicting. The benefit or detrimental effects of wearing contact lenses depend not only upon the substance, but also on factors including the form of the substance, characteristics and duration of the exposure, the uses of other eye protection equipment, and the hygiene of the lenses. However, there may be individual substances whose irritating or corrosive properties are such that the wearing of contact lenses would be harmful to the eye. In those specific cases, contact lenses should not be worn. In any event, the usual eye protection equipment should be worn even when contact lenses are in place.

Dilauroyl peroxide is produced by reaction of lauroyl chloride with sodium peroxide. Its major use is as an initiator for vinyl chloride. It is used as a polymerization agent in the plastics industry and as a curing agent for rubber. It has also been used as a burnout agent for acetate yarns. The pharmaceutical industry uses it in topical creams in combination with antibiotics for acne treatment .
