To a solution of 2,4-di-tert-butoxy-5-(3-methyl-thiophen-2-yl)-pyrimidine (Prep 25, 165 mg, 0.52 mmol) in dioxane (5 mL) 4N HClaq in dioxane (1 mL) was added at 0° C. After stirring for 8 hours, the mixture was evaporated to give 110 mg of the title compound as white solid (quantitative yield)
