The Tagetes erecta plant or regenerable portion thereof according to claim 13 that further exhibits at least one of a neoxanthin plus violaxanthin ratio of about 1:5 to about 1:1, a β-carotene ratio of about 0.05 to about 0.9 for flower petals and about one for leaves, an α-cryptoxanthin ratio of about 0.25 to about 0.9, a phytoene ratio of about 0.3 to about 1 or a phytofluene ratio of about 0.2 to about 1, wherein the xanthophylls are assayed as alcohols.
