To the suspension is added N-(3-bromopropyl)phthalimide (498 g), and the mixture is further stirred at the same temperature for 9 hours. The reaction solution is poured into ice-water, and the precipitated crystals are collected by filtration, washed successively with water, ethanol and diethyl ether, and dried to give 6-(3-phthalimidopropoxy)carbostyril (410 g) as a white powder.
